Logitech Dual Action Gamepad Problem

My gamepad controller randomly stops working while playing games. It will work fine and then stop all together. i check the device in control panel and its not working. I recalibrate it and it works fine for a few more minutes. I'm running xp pro w/sp2 and all the usb drivers appear to be installed and working correctly. Any ideas?
