Logitech G9 gaming mouse. Grrr! Good for 6 weeks

Well I posted awhile back that I was going to get one of these.

THE GOOD: Feels really nice if you like to finger control the mouse .Lots of options and macros you can use with it,2 different grips (wide and smooth for palmers; and thin and textured for finger tip people)fast laser ,and YOU can tell a difference between it and slower mice .If you need that fast a DPI I dont know.Good in FPS games I guess. The mouse wheel can be adjusted to click or free roll as well as act as 4 different controls (scroll ,click down, click left or click right). It even allows you choose a color LED assignment of the running man symbol for different settings and DPI speed on the fly.One problem though.

THE BAD: If it keeps on working.

After 6 weeks of moderately playing games and general use it decided to die on me last weekend.I contacted Logitech support which they had me try different things to no avail I installed setpoint and uninstalled setpoint.Works fine with my other USB mice with or without software DLed.The cursor is unresponsive none of the buttons work. The LEd doesnt light up or adjust although when I plug it in and off of USB I get the recogntion beep.

Logitech support said they I was due a replacement (thankfully)So I sent my information as well as a scan of my receipt from CC.Been a couple days since then and havent heard anything yet.I will let you know when I do hear something.

The main reason I am posting this is I purchased without researching the mouse as much as I should. If you go on to Logitech.com (their own site) there is probably an average of 2 or 3 people per page posting on the forums there various problems with the G9 Mouse. So it is really buyer beware and do your research before buying anything not just gaming mice especially in this economy :( . I really like the mouse but for over $100 it should be much more reliable.Props to logitech if they do honor their warranties.Ill get back to you on that, but I think they know they have a consistantly deffective product.

You watch some review sites also since they get paid by the companies to give a good review on thier product. When ordering mouse I would suggest you first check bestbuy or anyother stores and test the mice out if you like it go back and order on newegg or tigerdirect.com since bestbuy has higher prices. Hope this helps.

yeah because you can sit there and play with a G9 at best buy for 6 weeks right?

Well u maybe are confused, what I mean is you basically ask the person that works on the computer section and ask him if I can plug the g9 that is on display to a pc they have they will let you do it, you can basically check the tracking etc of the mouse. I don't think I said anything about staying at best buy for 6 weeks and play with the mouse. You should read before posting or understand I wrote, its common sense. In your situation you can't do anything but throw it out and get a new one.

I've NEVER seen a G9 on display outside of a box.

Yeah I went to several different CC and BB we have in the area .Only the CC had them in stock and all were in a box which is molded around the the G9 so if you could cup it you can generally get a good idea of the feel maybe not perfect with it out of the box though.I think the other posters are referring to the fact that it failed on me after 6 weeks which can happen to any electronic device as well as DOA out of the box whether you get it from a big box store or order it online.

Also some are DOA out of the box if you read http://www.logitech.com/ forums which in that case you can take back to the store .I think beyond 1 month though you have to contact logitech for warranty replacement.

Also on a side note with it being several days and not hearing through email back about warranty replacement.I decide to call.Glad I did . When I called took me a few hours on and off trying to get through (they must be really busy)I was luckily enough to get Lisa. She told me although the warranty information was started it was never finished it was left "up in the air" so to speak. She was very considerate and helpful and within a few mintutes of verifying info she had processed the warranty for me.A new G9 should be here either tuesday or wednesday as it comes from their Arizona warehouse.

So you may get better results if you call.I know I will go ahead and call first from now on.

Well I got mt G9 through the mail .So far it works great .I think I may play with it for awhile without DL'ing the setpoint.Seems like I read somewhere it can cause problems with the mouse. The 5.0 version that is.

Kudos for logitech for their warranty support. Went very smooth after I decide to call them.I have thought about Razor but I dont know if they stand behind their products like Logitech does.If a company treats you well most likely you will go back to them for repeat business.I also have the MX 518 but I like the G9 much better as long as it keeps working.

Thats werid im runnig mostly logitech stuff and its neva failed on me

Yeah you might be lucky .One guy on their forums posted he was on his 3 rd G9 in less than a year.I really love the mouse with all it options an settings.I hope this one is more reliable(knocks on wood) :o
