logon problems

ive had my custom built pc for a few months now and this problem im having is starting to really get on my nerves.

when i click on my user on the logon screen i get a chance of three things happening:

1. it logs on all fine and dandy

2. it logs on but my bottom right mini icons do not show and nothing works

or 3. i click on my user and all it displays is my wallpaper

i have to reset the pc wen the 2 and 3 happen everytime then go onto my bios settings and restore everything to default, even though its already on it. do you think the bios settings are being automatically changed?

anybody have any ideas to whats happening?

no the bios is not being changes

try a repair installation of windows or run the system file checker
To run the system file checker, press Start, Run, and then type in
SFC /scannow
press enter (duhh)

you will need your windows cd

ive repaired windows and ive even formatted it before. i probably need to update the BIOS but that leads me to my next problem.

my floppy drive wont read disks so i cant put the update on floppy and boot with it.

cheers for the system file checker thing, i knew its there but i didnt know how to access it
