Long Start/Shutdown...

IDK why but lately my laptop has taken ages to start up and shutdown... like at least 5-8min... and this is a new laptop, with a c2d/3 gig ram... any ideas as to what could be causing this?
 
It's not installing updates is it? Cuz, I got a new laptop today (and if thats what you mean by new) it takes a while for the updates to install. I'm sure it's prol not this because you would realize that it says installing updates but worth a try right?
 
Laptops today are usually loaded with crap that the manufacturers install on it. You might want to do a little cleaning. And yeah, it probably is updating.
 
nah by new i mean like idk 3mo old, it's an HP laptop, i can't pull of the name right now cause i'm running malwarebytes on it... but idk what else to do, cause so far 10 min into the scan, and still no problems at all
