i was looking for a good mobo to go with my e8400?

i plan to run win vista and overclock it

maybe a asus p5e or a 780i any suggestions?

It kinda depends on the graphics card you plan to run. Would you like the ability to run SLi or Crossfire in the future (or right now)?

For Crossfire, get Gigabyte X38

For SLi, yeah, get the 780i.

If you're certain you will only run one card, get the X38 above. The only benefit to the P5E is the onboard eSATA support. For you, that may not be a benefit.

Memory compatibility lists are absolutely useless... If everyone followed them we would be using absolute crap... I don't even know if my G Skill RAM is on the list by my mobo, just match specs and don't worry about...

Blah blah blah... :P

Seriously, though, there's plenty of good RAM that's guaranteed to work with the mobo on that list. Like I said, the Ballistix RAM I'm using passes Memtest 86, yet, after 24-48 hrs my PC hard locks. Don't have that problem with the XMS2...
