ok, im lookin to build a system due to my laptop crappin out on me, i was goign to wait til christmas but w/ the laptop failure im gonna do it over thanksgiving break

here is what im lookin at getting, ordering tonight or tomorrow, im just looking to see if yall have any things you would change and why you would change them, also, if i order this list, will i have every part/cord/wire/screw i need to get it working

Foxconn C51XEM2AA- 8EKRS2H AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor

as far as ram goes, does it matter, 4 1gb or 2 2gb sticks, i cant decide on the ram, im not too worried, it looks like i can just pick any of it thats 240 pin ddr800

what would yall recomend as far as hard drive also, would there be an advantage of say two 160's over a single 320, or there isnt a big price difference, 2 320's, even though i would never use that much, or say a 160 and a 320, what kind of setups are yall running, im not interested in raid at this point

as far as cases go, im undecided i like a lot of 'em

and as far as power source, im pretty sure i dont want a case that comes w/ one, but i dont know what psu to get, what kind would you recomend for my system

the more im writing the more i realize maybe i shouldnt order by tomorrow, there is still a lot of unknowns at the moment

not sure what dvd drive to get either, ill prolly just get one of teh ones on praetor's recommended list

ok, last thing i believe, videocard

readin through the guide on this forum, im still lost, i dont want the best, but i want a good one, the games i do end up playin i want to play near best settings

any recomendations

What is your budget, and why do you want to go with AMD over Intel?

Intel has better CPU's than AMD, at least right now.

If your not overclocking i think your going to get more out of AMD than intel for the money.

For the PSU, i recommend: Corsair HX520w, OCZ StealthXStream 600w, GameXStream 600w, Corsair 620w, OCZ GameXStream 700w. I think thats in order..

Video card, i would get the 8800GT 512mb, and in the future a couple of those paid in SLI would be nice, but for SLI i would get no lower than the Corsair 620w/ OCZ 700w.

For DX10 you got to have vista and if you want more than 3.12gb of ram you got to have 64bit vista.

Mobo and cpu are good. My friends for the same processor and it runs real nice.

For the ram :

Having more then 3gb's isn't supported unless youve got 64 os I think.

Having 2 hdd's is rlly up to you.

It has some advantages such as,

If 1 drive crashes you still got a working one.

Or you can use one for os and all your programs and 1 for all your files and documents and such.

Or you can put everything on 1 drive and partition the other drive and have a partition of the drive images and such.

It's really up to you in the end.

Psu's have been names and I think it was ceewi1 had written a list of good ones.

I myself got the oczgameXstream like mentioned above and it's a great psu.

who said stay away from foxconn?! better go throw your mobo in the trash because foxconn makes most of the parts for other companies including asus, evga, gigabyte ect. you must know nothing about them.

Stay away from foxcoon, their mother board sucks ( same with biostar, asrock)

Haha....They make Intel's mobos and I have seen their logo on my Gigabyte board, Gigabyte makes one of the best boards out there, and they don't suck. Whatever Foxconn is doing is certainly right...

Missed out didja?

EVGA is no big brand. Others are fine for cheaper...

32 bit - 3.25GB

64 bit - 128GB

HDD's won't crash unless you buy an crappy one like Excelstor or Maxtor...

i like EVGA a lot. I'd agree that there are plenty other that suffice for a lower price, but I do like EVGA's lifetime warranty and step-up programs.

ok, im thinkin of maybe going a lil cheaper on the video card, like closer to 200, any suggestions, still havent decided if ill dish out the cash for the 8800

Honestly, i would get the 8800, if you can't afford it, don't spend $185 on a motherboard...

But if you find away to get both, great. For the price, i think $280 is well worth it.

There's the P31-DS3L or the P35-DS3L. Their absolutely great motherboards, also with support for 45nm processors. Good overclockers, and stable. That makes you able for the GT :)
