looking at getting a Handheld Computer some time soon need advise!

Hi there, I am sort of new the boards, I am lookin at possibly buying a handheld computer sometime soon in the near future. I can't do it right away since I am college student right now and have exteremly limited founds as far as money goes. But I would like to look at getting one in about a year or two from now. But I have no clue which ones are good and which ones are not.
What I really want the most out of it, is I want to be able to run microsoft office programs on it so I can work on school projects while I am away on vaction with out having to lug around a big honky laptop all the time. (that is if such programs are even available and internet and email access. Thats really all I would want out of it.
I am a total newbie to handheld computers, and even a lot of basic stuff with laptops and desktops lol but I am trying to widen my knowledge of all the stuff I know...if any of you guys can help me with finding out info that I can use for research on what I can look into to buy that would be really, really great help.

The budget I am looking at for when I look into getting this thing is probably going to be $300-$500, as far as size goes I would like something that is has a fairly big screen but is not bigger then my hand as far when I am holding the thing. I know I would like to look at one that has one of those pointers that you can just use like a pen as well.
That good for starting off with?

I think I did not phrase that right what I mean is I don't want something that is wider then your hand meaning I don't want to look at the ones that are really long off to the sides. I want something that just goes up and down..sorry I did not realize how retarded that statement sounded until just now
 
I am not sure what size you want at the end. You may looking at 15.4" or 14.1"
With just $500. You don't have much choice. If you don't mind it not well-known brand, here is my choice.

You can filter out what you want. I will suggest Intel Pentium Dual Core/ AMD Dual Core CPU, 1 GB RAM, DVD RW.

Ok I think you totally mis understood me you have me a link to a laptop I am not looking at a laptop I want a handheld computer a PDA I guess. Like a Palm...sorry that does not suprise me I screwed that up...I am not very good with my comp. vocab...and I am just not terribly great with computers in general but yeah I am talking about a PDA not a laptop.
