Hi!

I recently purchased a canon camea whose system requirements for uploading video are intel core 2 duo 2.6 ghz or newer. My laptops os is intel core 2 duo 1.5ghz.

My question is If i purchase a new computer with a intel core i-3-5-7 processor do the ghz have to be a minimum of 2.6 or can they be lower? Thanks so much

p.s the camera, if you are interested is the Canon Elph 300HS

Couldn't find any requirements for this camera in a quick search, and for transfering pictures or video over to the pc off the camera, there shouldn't be any except maybe no Windows 95....

Are you trying to capture live video off the new camera?

Yeah for some reason the requirements are only listed on the back of the box, which I didn't read until getting home. Just trying to record 1080p and upload to yt, so far I've been able to do it decently with what my laptop has but now I'm thinking a fast SD card would probably really help video quality. What do you think?

It's just ridiculous that the os requirements are so high for video! I've had many "grrr"moments in the past few days because of this, so anything you can suggest would help!! :)

What new computer where you looking at? I would think almost all new computers would be fine.

EDIT: Just saw you said you would get a core i something. That would be more than enough. Processor speed doesn't necessarily determine how good the processor is. All of the core i models are better than the core2duos. You will be fine.

So you're recording video and then transferring it to your computer? Than the requirement would be more like a recommendation. With your weak processor, it'll just take longer than you'd want. Unless you're uploading hundreds of GBs of video a day, you'll be fine. Buying a new computer for just a camera seems ridiculous.

I do believe [almost all, if not every] i-3,5,7 processor would be better than Core2Duo. At least, that's what I read in an article/blog. :P

I'll have to agree with this - don't buy a new computer just for a camera. I can't think of any reason for videos needing that much processing power with the possible exception of heavy editing. If all you need to do is copy stuff off your camera or use some kinda photo album software, you're fine with what you currently have.

Finally some logical thinking.I completely agree with you 100%!

Same answer ;)

seaofnocares trust me you do NOT need super strong processor for simple video transfer unless if you are performing some crazy programming graphic sh!!t lol.
So my advice to you is to NOT spend money on something what you really do NOT need.

Everyone this is so ridiculous and stupid!Today people are buying SUPER STRONG systems for ANYTHING and that doesn't make sense and it's just stupid and also shows that people really do not have knowledge from these things, but they "know" that STRONGEST SYSTEM will fix all their problems.I just can't believe how ridiculous computers became today.
Here are few examples of stupidity I met in my life and also read it:

-"Person will upgrade from 2 GB of RAM to 4 GB of RAM because his desktop lags."
My comment on this: What the hell?!

-"His program for opening simple images lags so he decided to upgrade 4 GB of RAM to 8 GB of RAM."
My comment on this: Jesus Christ man! What are you stupid?!

-"Half-Life 2 lags like hell. The person decided to upgrade his graphic card of 512 MB to the one of 768 MB."
My comment on this: I played that game perfectly on simple ATI Mobility Radeon of 64 MB without any lags not to mention that my graphic card is a LOT older and a LOT weaker then yours.I mean what the hell man?!

-"I just reinstalled Windows but they lag.Is it a virus?I am going to buy the newest Antivirus program!"
My comment on this: You just formatted your entire HDD.It cannot be a virus. But hey if you wanna spend your money on something it will not help you,be my guest hahaha!

-"Vista won't work on 1 GB of RAM.You must have at least 4 GB of RAM otherwise you won't be even able to use your desktop."
My comment on this: Bull fuc!!ing sh!!t !!! I used Vista and played games on it perfectly on just 512 MB of RAM and it worked perfectly...what's wrong with you people?!

-"I have just installed all 500 updates I found for Windows and now my computer works slow and before it was working just fine.I will need to update my RAM and processor from 2 GB of RAM and 3.0 ghz dual core 2 to 6 GB of RAM and strongest Intel Core i7."
My comment on this: Of course your computer works like crap!Nobody who has at least one small peace of the brain in his head won't do that.500 updates.....o my god...I always tell people..."If your computer was working perfectly BEFORE 500 installed updates then it is NOT your hardware. It is your stupidity thinking that ALL updates will make your system faster when in fact they won't if you overreact like everyone I know -_-

-"My Windows XP was working perfectly for 3 months, but now all of a sudden it gives me BSOD on each boot because XP does not support partitions bigger then 127 GB in size and mine is 220 GB in size and that's why it doesnt work.I am going to my new bigger hard drive and make smaller partition on it."
My comment on this: Yea right! So you are saying that XP CANNOT work if it is installed on partition bigger then 127 GB in size,BUT IT WAS WORKING PERFECTLY on 220 GB partition for 3 months and now all of a sudden XP must not have partition bigger then 127 GB in order to work at all??? Cut the crap!I was using XP on partitions of 465 GB in size and it works perfectly for already 2 years. If you want to spend your money on BIG HDD of lets say 500 GB in order to use only 127 GB of it's space then I say you are a moron... -_-

-"I want to play Crysis. Is graphic card of 1 GB of memory enough?I heard you need at least 2 in order for Crysis to work normal."
My comment on this: Kill your self together with the person who told you that because that's bullsh!!t !!

-"I know about computers a lot more then you do and if I say that Windows 7 needs Intel Core i7 in order to work then it needs it so stop telling people that Windows 7 can work on Intel Core Duo processors because it is not true. You need the strongest processor."
My comment on this: Somebody shoot me please -_-'

-"I cannot install Windows 7.It says that I do not have enough free space. Will upgrading my RAM from 6 GB to 8 GB fix the problem?I already bought it.
My comment on this: -_-

And so on blablablablablabla...

If you people want to spend so much money on something so stupid then I say you are crazy...some people have nothing to eat and you are spending so much money on the extreme computer components just because your simple program for images or videos lags???
Better learn how to use computer then because viewing simple images or videos do not require the strongest hardware equipment...

-_- -_- -_-

Cheers!

(Sorry for being so harsh, but today people just overreact for no damn reason)...

With your weak processor
Weak processor???? Lol, my Pentium M is probably about half as fast. :P

Anywho, you really don't need to buy a new laptop. You'll probably struggle a bit to play a 1080p video on your laptop, but there's no reason that you can't upload it.

Exactly lol.Today people buy the strongest systems and components just to perform the most simple task lol which can also be easily done even under Windows 98 using the components from 2000. ...
But buying strong processor to upload videos??? LOL!
Anyway I agree with you man :P

I do believe [almost all, if not every] i-3,5,7 processor would be better than Core2Duo. At least, that's what I read in an article/blog. :P

It depends on the clock speed. Clock for clock (at equal frequencies) the i3/i5/i7 processors will have the advantage, but certain higher clock Core2 CPU's will be quicker than the lower clocked i series counterpart

For just transferring videos, you won't need any more. The requirements are probably for bundled software for video or picture editing. If you aren't going to be using these, the only requirements will be a USB port to plug your camera into, or an SD card slot if your camera takes SD's for storage.

For future reference, you can't really directly compare across architectures.

What that means is, you can't compare a 2GHz Pentium 3 to a 2GHz i3. Obviously the i3 will be quicker, and it is for that reason that you can't just look at clock speeds.

Though the clock speeds do make a difference sometimes, so, for instance, an Intel i7 920 is faster than a Phenom II 955, and it is also faster than a Phenom II 965, but the extra 200MHz on the 965 makes that difference not quite so large, you can't purely look at it, because of the processor architecture.

Although processors have at the very basic level the same architecture, meaning they perform calculations all the same, when you look into it in more detail, they don't. The size of components on the die (the chip itself), the layout of these components, the size of cache, the levels of cache, the transistor count, the instruction set, all of these and more play a part in how well a processor performs.

So, in order to test the speed of two processors from different architectures, you would benchmark them. This is doing the same tests with all components the same, except for the processor. You change this one variable and see how it affects overall performance.

What you will find is that the i3/i5/i7 processors are, clock for clock, faster than the Core 2, because of the more efficient architecture, so with the requirements saying a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, you may actually only need a 2.0GHz Core i3

=EDIT=

I wish Americans knew the meaning of the word irony :P

Dude, you need to chill. Some of those complaints were legitimate. Just because you think you know what you are doing and get certain results doesn't mean that other people will get those same results, nor are they always being unreasonable.

Every machine and every setup is different.

In this case, I agree that upgrading the machine is not necessary, due to the circumstances provided.

No need to get a new computer for this specific reason however if you were already thinking of getting a new computer now's not a bad time to start looking.
