Looking for a general use Laptop

Easy. PC World, Comet, Dixons etc will all have some laptops at that price. When I bought mine I found that Comet were the best value (not the cheapest). For £400 you will be able to get a laptop that is fine for DVD's, Office etc.

Take thisfor example (picked this one out as it is a pretty good spec). If you list by price you will see loads for under £400 and thats just the one site.

Just to give you a rough guide - my Fujitsu Siemens laptop (2gb RAM, 1.6Ghz Centrino Duo, 40gb hard drive) puts up with SolidWorks and NX, Photoshop CS3, Office 2007 OrCAD. All of which are big software packages (given it does them slowly!).

Hope that helps! Doug

Looks OK, but a word of warning - Advent is PC World 'own brand'. my brother got one and the DVD drive stopped working (competely) after 18months, and the battery lost capacity even quicker, whereas my Fujistu Siemens - mentioned in my earlier post is still good, and after 2 1/2 years haven't really noticed any battery deteriation.

Having said that it may be completely fine! Hope that helps, Doug.
