Looking for a GOOD Registry Cleaner

I'm looking for a good registry cleaner. I keep getting a pop-up box from "Messenger Service" saying I need to go to www.registrycleanerxp.com to download one and clean my registry. I believe that my registry does need a cleaning. Now I am having some problems with my internet as well some of you may recall my thread in the internet discussion forum. So what my question is, what registry cleaner is the best one to get that does the job, that will get rid of that pop-up as hopefully fix my internet problem. Any freeware would be ideal so I don't have to run to the store and look for it or give my credit card number out online.

Anyone can point you at a registry cleaner with the best found being the freeware called RegCleaner found at http://www.dewassoc.com/support/useful/regcleaner.htm

Your real problem is getting rid of the "adwares" with a good cleaner like Lavasoft's Ad-Aware. The latest version is found at http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Another tool that works well and offers a mild firewall is the Spyware Terminator that also cleans up some adbots as well. That's also free at http://www.spywareterminator.com/

CCleaner is more geared towards cleaning the IE history and deleting obsolete files and folders from the drive to clear space. RegCleaner opens right up to a main window displaying all main software keys where you can often spot new "unknowns" at the top with the new marking on the right there. You can also go to the tools menu and use the automatic registry cleanup option as well as opening the regedit window.

But for adwares you want the correct tool. Ad-Aware SE Personal the earlier release has been great for finding reg values created by adbots and browser hijackers. The slightly older version is found at http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Ad-Aware/adaware.html

Lately when going to tv guide's online site the IE address bar's icon was changed to whatelse but tvguide. RegCleaner showed the quesionable name at the top and a quick removal of the new unknown reg value saw CF and other normal IE bar icons reappear! The freeware works in all versions of Windws from 95 upto Vista as found out. But there you need an adware remover to see that gone.

AusLogics Boostspeed is amazing at cleaning your registry. Not only that but tons of other features.

Ad-Aware has a limited registry cleaner included in that for removing known ad entries. For cleaning up the registry itself there are several programs. But the actual problem there is ad infection. For adwares adware removers.

So you guys are saying that the popup saying "Messenger Service" telling my that my registry is corrupt and damage, is just Ad-Ware

You ran into a little bug they intentionally see copied to your drive. I've found As-Aware effective when getting clobbered with a few IE hijackers like the lame adds to get you to buy. You need to sweep the system with that and maybe one or more adware/spyware removers to remove. Playing around trying to isolate the exact reg values requires a little more experience so you don't remove something you actually need. RegCleaner does shows the new entrie at the top of the list in the main window for manual removal. But again knowing what is and isn't good takes a little experience with the registry.

A good program like Ad-Aware, Spyware Terminator, Spybot Search&Destroy and only a few others would be advised there.Let one of those remove this for you. If none work(doubtful) post a HiJack This or Smitfraud log in the security section and have someone go through it with you.

I installed and ran Ad-Aware. It found some stuff in the registry and I go it to remove it. It seems to have not removed that "Messenger Service" pop-up. I still get them, I got while posting this response. Also when I still go to Task Manager>Process, I still IEXPLORE.EXE appear when I am not using it. When I terminate the process it loads up again. If I were to post a HiJack This or Smitfraud log in the security section and have someone go through it with me, how would I go about getting the HiJack This or Smitfraud log?

The problem there is adware not orphanned registry entries where some uninstaller leaves stuff nehind in the registry. The various registry cleaners will simply see those entries as valid and pass them by since those are active due to the adware being there. RegCleaner is the only one that will show new entires from anything installed at the top of the main window marked new where you have to know which one is what for manual removal. The HT log will show the new startups and is advised there.

A "good" registry cleaner is helpful for the periodic run to clean up any lingering entries that no longer have a program or driver to load. Sometimes you will see a clash trying to install a new set of drivers for even a new device and an old obsolete reg value is still trying to load something no longer there. That can slow Windows down too.

Having run RegCleaner since it was first used on a 98 build I've had a chance to work with it all the way into Vista and found it the most effective and least intrusive. When you install it there are no new entries made in the registry. The installer simply creates a desktop shortcut to the executable. Besides the automatic registry cleaner it has what I mentioned earlier the main window that displays the main reg keys for all programs installed. It also has a link for regedit but advised for experienced users there.

I use CCleaner, it does a great job, for clearing all temporary files etc that you get while browsing the internet.

You've got 6 posts in this thread to say pretty much the same thing, give it a rest...
