Looking for a good video card under $100

Wow I'm dead serious it was in stock earlier today, people must have noticed and scarfed them all up already. Crazy! After all it's a sweet price for a 275 even recertified.

Anyway, I was just recommending the 250 because of price mostly. For only $60, it's more ''bang for the buck'' than the 260 is. But yes hands down the 260 is the stronger card.
 
All this discussion without even knowing which PSU would he be upgrading to.
And I know well enough that none of you would recommend a GPU on the 300W PSU he has ,then why have a discussion over which GPU to buy when the compatibility itself is an issue over here.
And once he gets a decent enough PSU to power up the card he may have a completely different budget.
We don't even know which CPU he has.

And also the OP would be transfering this advice to his friend who may or may not understand whether getting a new PSU is really an option.


Also What is recertified GPU??
 
The 300W power supply on that thing is pretty much crap, Would upgrade it before I would run any of the cards that have been listed.


But considering you said he was going to upgrade it. Hopefully to a good quality one with more wattage. If you can pull 10 more bucks off, this a pretty good deal and will probably be gone quick. 110 bucks with free shipping and better then any card listed so far.

Has he opened the case, just to see how much room it has for a video card. Alot of those OEM cases are pretty cramped.

Well it's really important to know what PSU he is getting, and also we need to know what CPU exactly he has. What model?

Very nice find strangle! 5830's are beasts, very underrated because they got a bad rep when initially released because of driver issues. Most original reviews put it around 5770 performance which is simply not true, it's very very close to 5850 performance once drivers got fixed.

I am all for people disagreeing with what I think is the best option, I am more than happy to be given valid points to back up the difference of opinion and have a discussion about it and I will hold my hands up and say I am wrong if I feel I am, however for any of that to work, you need to do the same, and as I said in a previous post, READ THE THREAD

I don't ignore them, of course they are valid points, but they have all been brought up and addressed (except for the CPU).

I agree with Stranglehold's find of the 5830 if you are able to get the extra $10 together. If not and can afford the extra initial cost of the 5770 mihir posted, I would take that, and if not, I would still take the 260

The HD5830 is a really powerful card,I remember before the driver upgrade it was compared to my GTX 275,but after the new drivers the GTX 275 did not even stand a chance against it.

And yes he would need to check the case whether it is big enough to accomodate or not.

87dtna, thanks for all your fantastic points you have added to this thread! They are really helpful. But I'm sure you will agree you do detriment to the whole debate process when you do something as childish as this. It fine to disagree, its even fine to argue over that disagreement. Its not fine to be a spiteful about it, is it?...Aastii wasnt being.
 
Because if he puts it into a PC with an inferior power supply it may take out his motherboard....and if he does get a good PSU, but has a pentium 4, it won't matter if he sticks a gtx580 in there he will still have massive lag.

It's called actually caring that someone doesn't blow up their PC and/or puts the cart before the horse of a GPU upgrade when the CPU and/or PSU needs upgrading as well.

He has stated that the PSU will be upgraded, but for all we know it could be a 500w sunbeam that'll burst into flames within 20 minutes of gaming with a 5830 or gtx260 in there. And he STILL has not stated what CPU is in this PC, only that it's 2.6ghz which as I said before could be anywhere from the pentium 4 to an I7 920. No one knows, and it matters.
 
But it sounds like he knows what he's doing, if he needed help he would have asked. He stated that he is upgrading his PSU and his CPU. Unless he asks for help instead of telling us that he has it under control (which he did) I don't think we need to impose. He asked for a good GPU and so we gave him one, sure you can recommend him a PSU or CPU though it won't hurt, but we don't have to argue over it, honestly there is no point whatsoever.

Some people don't realize they need help. Oh I can't play a game, must be the graphics card...upgrade.....poof the PSU goes up in smoke and takes out the motherboard. We don't know unless it's asked and answered, and so far pretty much nothing has been answered well enough to make an educated conclusion. He says the PSU will be upgraded, but hasn't said to what. Is he considering a 400w PSU an upgrade? Even a crappy 600w PSU can go up in flames with a demanding GPU like a 5830.

I see no indication of good PC knowledge whatsoever when the answer to what CPU it has is 2.6ghz.

Its not a question of your disagreeing, we all have other views, thats why its a forum. Its the fact that you approached it rude, aggressive and without consideration for others views. This is not how adults talk to each other, on a forum or in life. If you can't see how your response was overly hostile then I worry there is no hope. I suggest you re-read this post in a few weeks and see if you can spot the issue. Thanks for your contribution again.
