Looking for a GPU...I think?

Sorry for the confusing thread title. I'm about to start using the Adobe suite for mostly image editing, and I was keen on speeding up my system. My first question is would a GPU do that for me, or is their a better upgrade option?

This is my system:
Intel Core i3-3225 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz
MSI Z77A-G43
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
LG DVD Burner Model GH24NS90 - OEM
Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G
Antec VP-450 450W
500GB WD HDD
SSD for OS
1T second HDD for backups.

So if a GPU is the way to go, I'm looking for something cheap that would speed up the system, if you have any recommendations. Thanks!

What exactly is it slow doing now?

Most image editing will be CPU oriented, although you'd have to have a pretty huge chunk of layers to choke out the i3.

It's not running particularly slow. I'm probably just looking for an excuse to upgrade a bit. Unless a new GPU or expanded memory won't lend a perceivable change, in which case I guess I'll save the money.
