hello! first off, thank you for looking at my post! I would appreciate it GREATLY if someone could help me. I am looking to buy a computer for myself, mainly for PLAYING GAMES and it will be custom made. if you cant tell by now, i know basically nothing about computers and what does what. i have done a LITTLE research, but not enough to feel confident. my friend is smart with computers, but some of his suggestions were frowned upon on other boards. so... please help me!

here is what i am getting. i dont know what i am supposed to supply, so im just going to put EVERYTHING i am getting. heh

...i think thats everything! haha

but i really would love some help. and i have questions...

1.) do i need a soundcard? will the headset be enough?

2.) do i really need that nice of a motherboard? is it even nice enough?

3.) is the DVD burner drive all i really need? will it also burn cds, and read dvds and read cds?

4.) im not really going to use floppy disks, not that i think...should i just pay the extra money to get a floppy drive?

5.) if i want to get on the internet, and the main computer with broadband is 2 rooms away...what do i do?

6) simply, does this look like a good setup for a gaming guy?

7.) if i want to do SLI (i know what that is! wooo) in the future...can i?

8.) will all of this fit in my case? is the case good?

9.) would i have to cool anything? if so, what would i need?

10.) probably the most important...will all of this work together!?

i honestly, truely cannot express my gratitude enough. im 16, and im an idiot at computers.

THANKYOU

...oh and im looking for less than 1500...well...AROUND that. THANKS!

Thats a very nice start! The only thing I might chnage is a cheaper motherboard. But other then that I wouldnt change anything.

1. If your an audiophile, sound cards produce much better sound then onboard

2. Probably not, and yes its nice enough... too nice... :P

3. Yes, it will burn and read CDs also

4. I would. It comes in handy for sharing files with people with old comouters.

5. I dont know much about this. Maybe get an extension cable.

6. Pretty good. Maybe get some nicer RAM but other then that its good.

7. With that motherboard yes

8. It'll fit, but there are nicer cases. Do you like brushed aluminum? Maybe consider a Lian Li

9. As long as the CPU is retail you dont need to buy any more fans.

10. Yes. Thats an exelent setup.

can you please direct me to a motherboard that is a little cheaper, but would work just as good? as in everything i want (playing games...basically haha)

and whats a CPU? the case?

can you also direct me to a lian li case please!

thank you so much for responding, and thank you for your time!!

OH and nicer ram as in more or is my choice a crappy one. like the quality. THANKS!!!!

yes but its more money...im kinda looking to lower the price a little if i can...with the motherboard maybe...

tell me what you find...because im going to start a new build with parts that are cheap. but i also want power...

thankyou!

thanks for the suugestion on the motherboard too...ill definitely look into it. also, i was looking into getting a 1 gig stick, so that later i could add another 1 gig stick. (are there only two places for ram sticks?) plus, my comp savy friend said that if i were to get a gig stick and a 512 mb stick, it would only run as fast as the 512 mb stick, as a rule. is this rule true? that ram only runs as fast as the lowest memory?

so i guess what im asking is...do you know what the best 1 gig stick i could get would be?

again, thank you so much everyone.

no no no, there are four slots for RAM, two of them are one color, and the other two are different. this is because it supports dual channel technology, which you can find out more about in the ram 101. also, youre friend was probably talking about the frequencies. if you have a gig and a 512 stick, it will work at 1.5 gigs. period...im not sure if thats what he meant. there is another number you must look at that comes with RAM, the PC number, or the number in MHz. for example, if you had a stick at 333MHz and one at 400 MHz, the mobo will underclock the 400MHz to 333, for stability reasons. of course, you could always overclock the RAM, but thats for later.

anyway, corsair is a very good RAM manufacturer, as is kingston. the ram youre looking at isnt bad though, for your application it should be just fine.

that was actually what i was referring to...but its all up to how much you want to spend. like i said, the ram you picked out is suitable. its like buying a ferrari: you can buy a maranello 550, or you can buy an enzo....either way, youre buying a ferrari. its just dependent on how fast you want to go.

oh, and yes...it will work. for future reference, you can get up to 4 gig. when you get the motherboard, the manual will tell you how much it can hold and at what frequency.

i cant see a window on that but if you get a case with a side window get neons and put them at the top and then bottum of the glass

Also realize that you can upgrade the videocard to a better model (say with ACS³ from eVGA) and then you can forego the expense of the NVSilencer :)

what does acs3 do? oh, and that one comes with a free motherboard too...but the reviews arent lookin too hot...so what does acs3 do? thanks!
