throughout my years ive used mcaffe, norton, and now pc tools spyware doctor..im getting bored of it and not even sure if it works that well..i want opinions on some of the top rated virus scans.. Suggestions please! thanks..

I use Avast, and I have had no real issue yet. It seems to keep my computer running well and healthy. However, I do regular scans plus spyware scans. It does not seems to bog down my system resources. Best of all, its free! I am sure it is not as good as some, but like I said, I havent had any real issues.

antivirus

Hi. I just recently downloaded a free antivirus software called Avira AntiVir Personal. You can try it I just thought if you didnt want to spend alot of money on the software that this might help

I had One care from microsoft it really does the job even I hated microsoft for paying much on software and anti virus but this one really works well to me. i was downloading some songs in limewire it detects right away trojan and virus and remove it automatically for me. i did tried norton , kapersky, avg, mcaffee and zone alarm finallt I'll stick to this antivirus from money making microsoft.

Have you had any virus'...? If not, then I imagine it is working well!

I use Norton for my laptop, purely and simply as it was the cheapest on Amazon Marketplaces. I bought the 2007 version in about March 2008 and it was £12 incl. P&P. Remembering that the year subscription doesn't start until you register, so it will keep up-to-date until March 2009 for me. Just an avenue you might want to look down.

In regards to free antivirus, I know many people who swear by it - but I just can't help think that the fact its free means it is not as reliable/secure etc., why is it free? Would people not pay for it etc.? But thats just my opinion.

Hope that helps, Doug.

Try COMODO. Its free. It has a Firewall. it has over 1000 Virus and spyware definitions. Updated everyday also has great useful tools onboard =] I use it i think its brilliant.

I run the free Avast on 2 laptops and 1 PC and it works very well. I don't know how they do it because over 2 million people suscribe to it. It updates twice a day.

I have heard good things about Antivir.

For $ Kaspersky. I personally use NOD32 version 2.7 though they have their 3.0 out now and I believe they have a Beta 4 in the works. You might also consider BitDefender.

For antispyware I use SUPERantispyware and they have both paid and free versions. I run the paid on my main PC and the free on my second one. I prefer the paid because you can configure as you want and it works very well. I've seen it work on machines where top notch antiviruses failed to detect torjans and this did. They do very proactive updating and improvements all the time. Plus, for an additional cost you get free lifetime updates. Hmmm, listen to me, its as if I am getting paid by them -- which I'm not! :D

I'd got with either ESET NOD32 or Norton AV 2009. You can download trials of both. I'd suggest you do that and check em out and see what one you like best.
