Looking for a new graphics card, have $150 saved up

Hi,

First of all let me say..

AGP ONLY

I do not plan on upgrading my motherboard anytime soon, it is a pain in the butt for me. So please leave out your PCI-E vs. AGP arguement, and just suggest some graphics cards for me.

Heres my specs.. Before suggesting a $500 remember that it would be quite bottlenecked.

P4 3.0Ghz
1.5GB PC3200
Radeon 9550 128MB (going to be replaced by one of your suggestions..)
AsRock P4VM800 motherboard
No idea what power supply I have.. How do I check..?
Edit - Power supply is a Logisys 480D.
I have $150 saved up right now but feel free to suggest up to about $230~.

get a ati x850 or i think its Geforce 7900 GT or something. they are pretty good not too expensive. and ati x850 is pretty cheap on ebay

yeah get the ati x850...a friend of mine in the forum called Kornowski has one and he says it good so....

I dont think he would mind if you Pm him with some questions about the card.

Don't worry, I won't be upgrading my mobo until I get a new computer.. Which is not for another year or two.

Right now I'm considering a X850 (don't know about XT or XG or GT or whatever extensions ATi has for it.. whichever is best.. ) (but I can't find one at Newegg), a 6800 (again, don't know about XT or XG or GT or whatever extensions nVidia has for it.. whichever is best..), a 7600 (don't know about XT or XG or GT or whatever extensions nVidia has for it.. whichever is best.. ), and a 7800 (don't know about XT or XG or GT or whatever extensions nVidia has for it.. whichever is best..).

First suggest some more cards (if you can), then tell me which to eliminate from that list.

I have never heard of a XG!?! But from memory a X850 XT is the fastest in that range. For the 6800, it would be the 6800GT and then 6800 Ultra in terms of increasing performance. I'm not really sure if they had a 6800GS, if they did they it would be lower than the GT. For the 7600 there are only two extensions, the GS and the GT with the GS being the lower of the two with some pipelines and vertex processors disabled, other than that its identical to the GT model. The same goes for the 7800.
A recent change to this trend is the X1900XTX, you would noticed that ATi has put an extra X after XT, and that is supposed to be the fastest card at the moment.

If you want an AGP only card than I would definitely got for the X850XT, it was from a very solid ATi series. I don't know it there are AGP versions of the 7800GT, there might be since its pretty old. But if you want High end graphics, then go for the X850 and the 7800. The 6800GT is a mainstream card and I would rather get a 7600GT, although its only 128-bit it packs a real big punch for its price range.

I think I saw one before, a 7900GS, but AGP cards are a rare species at the moment, and I don't think a 7900GS can be had for just $US150.

When I was looking for a vid card for my build earlier in the year, I looked up and down for the X850 and couldn't find one. Newegg has quit selling them, I got impatient and bought a X1300PRO, which has caused no problems, it is not very powerful. I like that 7600GT, I have a friend with one similar to that and it plays out pretty good.

The 7600GT is the best card for people on a budget. The problem with the X850 is that its a discontinued card. Most AGP cards are discontinued anyway.

Well my budget is not $150, it is up to $230. So that 7900GS is definitely within my range..

How come the x850 is discontinued? I scratched the 6800 off the list so right now it is..

x850XT
7600GT
7800GT
7900GS

Remember.. Feel free to add more suggestions.. From this list, give me the weakest link.

Hey.. Thanks!

List:
x850XT
7800GT
7900GS

Remember.. Feel free to add more suggestions!

Also, what is the ATi equivalent of the 7900GS? What is the nVidia equivalent of the x850XT?

On 12:33AM, April 8th, 2007, a 2 year old Radeon 9550 died in a very pretty rainbow of color before the monitor abruptly powered down.. The nail on the coffin? The monitor would not turn on when the computer powered on again.... Boo hoo? More like **** YES!!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

FINALLY!!!!! Now I have absolutely no excuse to not get another (albeit at a 400% higher price) graphics card!! :D

I think the 7950GT is going too far towards the upper end of town, I doubt you can have one for $US150. Plus I don't even think they have AGP ones/
