Hello,
I'm looking at getting a new desktop computer in the $1500-$2000 range. It will be an all-purpose machine. As I am currently a senior Computer Science major, I will be using it for my senior project and for graduate school, but I also like to game, so I want it to be capable for that. As of right now, these are the components I have selected, all from Directron.com.
Case with a upgrade to a 575W PSU
Motherboard ASUS P5Q-E LGA775 ATX
Processor Q9550 2.83 GHz Quad Core
Ram 4 GB DDR2 1066
Optical Drive LG Blu-Ray player
Video Card (x2) Powercolor Radeon HD4850
Hard Drives (x2 in RAID 1) WD 320 GB
Hard Drive (Storage) WD 500 GB
I intend to overclock the processor, and perhaps the video card and RAM, so I will need a CPU cooler, as well, so I would appreciate any recommendations that you can give me, both for the cooler and the system as a whole.
Also, I have never assembled a computer before, and attaching the motherboard to the case worries me. Directron will assemble and test the system for $27: Assembly. Has anyone ever done this or heard anything about it? Does it sound like a good idea?
