Looking for alternatives to QuickTime, Real Player, WMP, etc

Hi, I've been searching the web for some good alternatives to Windows Media Player, QuickTime, Real Player - all those programs I tend to need to view video and listen to music. I abhor Real Player because it takes forever to install - you have to register and log in with them just to install it!

So, if any of you know some good programs (which are probably better than what I've found so far) please point me in the right direction. I would greatly appreciate it!

I've heard VideoLAN is a good media player. I downloaded it and installed, but I rarely use it (rarely-Not at all). The GUI on VideoLAN is terrible, but who cares about look when it works
