Looking for an upgrade

Personally I'd sell your 7970 and buy a GTX 780 or a GTX 780 Ti rather than get another 2 year old card.

Yeah I agree with Okey. You won't be able to sell a 7970 for as much as you probably want, but it also means it's cheap to buy another one. Mine was 170 shipped on Ebay a few weeks ago. Are you playing on more than one screen or at higher than 1080p? If you're not then I don't think there's really a point in upgrading just yet. 7970 can max out essentially everything.

Well unfortunately the game I'm really needing a little boost for doesn't have crossfire support, if I max everything out on with the 7970 I get about 30 fraps as my average, and my fans are running at their max. Should I upgrade or just get some fans and overclock.

You should be able to overclock that card alright without adding extra cooling. I have the same card and it defaulted to running at 1000 Core and 1450 Memory.

To be honest 30fps isn't that bad is it? Turn the settings in the game down a little bit... what resolution are you playing this game at and what game is it?

The 7970 is a 2+ year old card after all. It's not going to max everything forever especially at the rate at which we're going right now with every new GPU generation being quite a bit more powerful than the previous!

I'm running in 1080p with %400 percent resolution, the game is coh 2. I don't want my game running like a console peasant, but I want the high quality graphics. When I run the performance test I get 30 - 14 fps. If I run the game with 1080p 100% resolution I get 60-45. The game doesn't have crossfire support either. So should I upgrade or overclock.

Are you using AA along with that 400% scale? If so, turn AA off because a 400% resolution scaling of 1080p should eliminate the jaggies well enough.

Although, it would probably be easier on the system to just run 100% and crank up the AA settings.

But I would say, if you feel you need to upgrade you might want to wait. nVidia is supposed to be releasing the 900 series here soon I think, thats what I will be waiting for.

If thats true, your looking at it being released in a few weeks.

It sounds like you won't be happy until you upgrade.

Personally, max details at 100% resolution sounds reasonable enough performancewise to not have to drop extra cash.

I'm fine with 100% resolution, but I would like to get it at 400% resolution, the way the game options work is AA: low - reduces jagged images all the good stuff etc. medium - high does the same amount of AA but increases resolution to %225 - %400. It is very stupid how they put in this option. So I'm thinking of getting fans, (most of mine broke from transportation, but that will not be a problem anymore), and overclocking. Would that fix the issue and just wait for the 900 series.

With AA on low, and everything else maxed I get 60 -45, but with max AA I get 30-15 fps

well using the amd catalyst control center I have it set for 1000mhz for GPU and 1500mhz for memory. What is the max I should go? I don't want to kill it :p
