Looking for cheap laptop for programming

I'm looking for the cheapest laptop that would be capable of BASIC and Assembly programming, along with a text-program (like Wordpad). It doesn't have to have internet, but at least 100MB of hard drive space. I don't care how old it is, just tell me a model that would work for my purpose, has a mediocre battery life, and also be able to connect to my new desktop through some cable.

Any 3-5 hundred dollar laptop on the market today should do. What you want is something very basic that should come standard on most laptop's today. BASIC doesn't need a lot of power to work, it just depends on the type of Assembly programs you are working with now; whether they require a lot of power or not.

Almost any laptop you can find would do just fine for BASIC. Now if you start getting into something like C++ or JAVA, I'd look for something a bit better. Mine was alright for Java, but I think more RAM would of really helped out.
