Hi guys,

I was wondering if there was a good freeware program that I could download to compress iso image files. I want to store some of my iso image files from various dvds, but they take up too much room on the hard drive.

I appreciate your help

7-Zip

using the 7 zip format

If I archive iso images, will it affect the quality if I unzip them and burn them onto a dvd? Will it have any ill effects on the quality of the image?

No, as long as the process doesn't get corrupted. A compression that goes properly will be fine. What I reccomend you do to check it is generate an MD5 checksum of the iso, compress it, then decompress it on the same machine, and check if it validates. If it does validate, the compression went well. Then, on the target system, keep the checksum so you can validate it there when you decompress it to make sure the transfer went properly.

Thanks, even though I wasn't looking for it, I think im going to use it now too, I was thinking of backing up alot of my CD's for a while now, but I always thought it would end up taking to much disk space if i did alot of them.

Make sure you select the quality=Best option when you do compress, it takes longer, but it makes them as small as possible.
