Looking for Laptop, help please!

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a laptop because I'm going to university, and I was hoping you could give me some leads.

I'm looking for something that has lots of hard drive space (like 120gb will do it), since I plan to use it also to store files from my PC and what not. I'm not going to use it for gaming, just work and minimal multimedia stuff really. It should have dual-display as well as cloning capabilities.

I'm looking for something with good quality (for what I need), but low price. Let's say less than 1000$ CAD.

Thanks,
-Sniperchang

i very much doubt the ability to spend under 1000 cad on a lap top and get all of those capabilites.

Are you thinking about the Dual-Display I was talking about, Because it doesnt take alot of power to do it. Infact most laptops that have the ability to Clone a monitor (Like a laptop plug up to a projector for example) will likely be able to do dual-display also.

If this is confusing, lets just forget the dual-display, I'm sure there's a <1000$ laptop that will suit my needs, mabe 100gigs of harddrive space is ok. I just don't know wich brand I should go for, any deals, or whatever. I've never been much into laptops, but PCs no problem!

Sorry i misunderstood. I just built a dell laptop the dell inspiron 1505. You can get 120 gb of hard drive, it should have the dual monitor, my own personal inspiron 600 from a year ago has it, You would need to upgrade if you want a dvd burner. But you can get it for under a 1000 US. So that should work for you.

Ok thanks! I know dell make crappy PCs (They do anoying manufacturing short cuts and some components are non-standard therefor hard to upgrade without having to buy from dell) But, as Laptops, I have no clue.

So any more suggestions/Leads?

Thier laptops are definately great PC's, I have a friend who has abused a 9400 for a year and the only damage is one missing arrow key, due in part to the fact that he presses that itleast 50times more often then any other key ( he uses it for his books.... poor eyesight needs the magnification). I would also reccomend looking through best buy adds, they have some amazing prices... just look for a machine with a gigabyte of ram and a decent brand Acer Hp Asus ETC...

Good luck!

Dell laptops are great, this is the second year for mine and i have never had a problem with it at all. And you dont need to buy dells upgrades for them. You could just buy off newegg or something like that.

good movie haha "where shit, me no see shit?"(excuse that) um i prefer hp over dell if you are getting a laptop.
uh better yet in my opinion ibm http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...rkflow:LoadRuntimeTree?sb=:00000025:00000048:
give it,
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB)
the genine vista home basic
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 64MB,1394
1 gig ram
100GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm and dont really mess with anything else and you should stay around, $950

ALL laptops are pretty difficult to upgrade. Its not as easy as a desktop where you just buy a piece of hardware, whack it in and expect it to work.

therea also major space issues. i had a desktop with a small little graphics card that i upgraded to a much nicer graphics card that was more bulky. you cant add a more bulky thing to a laptop, ususally tey are tightly filled in.

Hmm I haven't thought of IBM. It isn't too bad, I'll consider it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was saying dell PCs (as in desktops/not laptops) are hard to upgrade. But I'll take your word that laptops aren't easy to upgrade! :P

When I look for a laptop, should I just look at specs+price and forget about the brand? I mean PCs are easier, you pick out the specs and brand you want and put'em together, instead of getting some manufactuer to make it for you, but is that different with laptops?

lol, I believe you.
