Looking for low-mid gaming laptop

Off to college soon, and I'm in need of a laptop.

I want a webcam, internal cd drive, and a overall decent package that can play games like
minecraft, HL2, Gary's Mod, TF2, etc on low/mid settings. So no big time shooters or anything like that, just a laptop that can play most games on low settings.

Budget is around $500, that can be pushed to 600ish if i have to.
I prefer a Asus,Acer Or Hp. I like the first two, and i can get a discount on HP's :P

I will not get a dell or sony. Just personal preference. So any suggestions?

Also side note: would a i3 processor be able to handle what I'm looking for? The only other thing this computer will be doing is typical college stuff like powerpoints and such, and watching movies. I'll also probably be writing compiling a lot of code on this thing as well, if that matters.

So just the base model they have with no addon's would do what i want?

It's a shame there's no internal cd drive.

None of those will be able to play many games. They all use either Intel GMA or super low end ATI discrete graphics.
