I'm looking for a decent replacement laptop for a friend. The motherboard went bad and it's time for her to get a new one. She wants to spend around $500 at the most. She uses it mostly for internet browsing and Microsoft Office.
Here is the one I had in mind and I want to get your opinions. I'm open to other suggestions as well.
I have this one. Got it for $499. Then prices went up for the hollydays.
Laptop you should be looking for should have Intel Core2 Duo processor, at least. Those that start with T or P, not the SU once. Processor speeds 2 Ghz and above. You want 45 nm core, avoid older 65 nm cores, as they are slower and require more power. 3 Gb memory minimum. Lighted keyboard would be a plus. Another thing to watch out for is a build in modem, many new laptops drop that all important feature, you need it for faxes.
Unfortunately laptops like that cost around $600 right now.
Avoid at all costs Acer. Concentrate on Lenovo, Dell, Asus, and Toshiba.
