looking for new laptop

I should say "first" laptop. I've had computers since the first pc's but always desktops. My current one is 8 yrs old, the longest I've ever kept one (I updated every 2 yrs when working but retirement income changed my views on that).

I was using a friend's laptop the other day and it picked up so much glare/reflections I could barely see what was on the screen. This was a $2k laptop new (though it was a few yrs old)! Outside of business laptops, all are glossy so how do you guys deal with that? Maybe it's my age (I am in 50's).

I've been considering Thinkpad because it is matte and has a nice keybaord (from and old typists point of view). I've seen lots of differing opinions/ratings on Lenova's reliability as well as on other mfgs.

There's more selection at my price range (around $800) with glossy screens but not sure I could deal with it.

That said, anyone have a relatively new laptop in my price range that they love? I'm not a gamer nor do I watch movies on a computer; mostly internet browsing and office apps. so I sure don't need a $2k laptop. But I do spend alot of time on my computer so I want as good as I can afford--i5 processor, 4gb ram, good network card (like intel centrino n-6300), reasonable battery life, reasonably good resolution) . Reliability is important--nothing more frustrating than dealing with most companies' customer support these days.

Lenovo runs like this. Thinkpad = Gold. Cant get any better. Rest of company = trash.

They provide the most matte screens around, you may also want to check out Dells business laptops and HP probooks.
