My wife and I are looking for a laptop under 500.00. We have always bought Toshiba laptops when they were available at Office Depot for around 300.00. I'm looking at Sams Club they have a 8 gb RAM Intel Core i5-5200u and a1TB HD for around 379.00. I don't know much about computers, it will mainly be used for checking facebook, doing resumes and maybe watching a video on now and then, is an O.K. laptop for our needs? My wife said a 4gb ram laptop would be OK but my tablet galaxy 10.5 tab s has almost as much power.

Office Depot has a hp 15.6 8 gb with 1 yr Internet and office for 399.00, the processor is AMD A10 would that be as good of a setup?

Would Lenovo be a better brand for the price? I've read that they are reviewed better than HP, Office Depot has a Idea Pad 110 for 379.00 it's a 8 GB with i5 processor.

Why is it that so many people dislike HP? I've always bought the cheap Toshiba when they were on sale. Should I spend a little more and get a Dell or for my needs would it really matter.

The cheap Dell Inspirons are garbage as well. The reason why so many people hate HP is because their quality control is bad and they just make terrible machines.

If you're not stuck on Sam's Club, check out machines at BestBuy, Staples,..etc. At least give you an idea with some brand variety (Asus, MSI) have low/entry level offerings you might want to consider in your price range.

Went to Best Buy bought the Lenovo idea pad 310 , office 360 and kapersky Internet protection for a little under 500.00. It has an AMD 12 Processor, 8 GB RAM and 1 TB Hard Drive. For our needs it was a better deal than what Office Depot had.
