Looking for recommendations for General Server rental

Sorry if this isn't the appropriate location, but I didn't see a topic that more closely matched what I was looking for.

Basically, I love running servers for games, file servers, etc.. but I can't often dedicate my own resources to do so. I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with 3rd party companies to do server rentals. Ideally, I would want something I could remote to, install software and run programs as needed.

I don't know exactly what I would need for bandwidth or resources but I imagine if I found a good/reliable company, I could configure something with them.

I live in northeast US so a company based around there would be preferred.

Thanks for your time,
Jeremy

What exactly do you have in mind? A file server usually consumes a lot of bandwidth, the more the better. You could hire a vps somewhere with which you could do anything you want.

If you do this so often. You could also consider building/ getting your own server. Running dedicated gaming servers and file serving don't really consume alot of resources.

Well files would be more of a secondary function, I'd like to be able to host dedicated game servers or a teamspeak server. I don't have the network resources to keep something dedicated running locally and I wouldn't want to keep a computer running 24/7.

Then a vps would be what you want. Don't anything about companies around where you live.

As for the bandwidth. You can probably calculate that yourself. Most dedicated servers come with a manual/ reference guide where you can find some guidelines to calculating what you need. Same for teamspeak, it depends on the codec you use. And there are enough guidelines to calculate what you need.
