looking for software to share network

Hello all,

I just joined this forum and it looks really active, so that's awesome :)
I'm looking for software to share my internet connection:
I know there are one million ways to do this, but I'd like to add a few (not too much asked for) options xD

I'd like to share my wireless/wired internet over wifi.
It has to be WEP-secured or open network(no security)
I have tried programs like connectify and virtual router but they both share as WPA (which can't be changed)

The reason for this is... my nintendo DS can't connect to WPA and I don't want to change my own wifi from WPA to WEP.

So if there is a way to share my connection as an open network or with WEP-security, I'd like to do so..
Thanks in advance guys :-)

greetings,
Spider

I had a good router, but I changed providers and they gave me a router+modem in one device..

I guess I can buy a router and use that one instead, but I was kinda trying to avoid that, because I don't know how to do it exactly. As in I know what has to be done, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Thanks for your reply btw!

or use my old one ofcourse hehe*
I don't have to buy a new one, but it's old now.
It might be a better idea to buy a newer one..

Im sure you can turn it off and bypass and use yours. I can with AT&T Uverse. Never did it but dont need it. I can open ports and close as needed with the cable modem box.

I have to add my router's ip instead of the current 192.168.0.1(the current router) and turn DHCP off on my own router,
but that's all I know about it.

Thanks for your reply!

All you need to do is disable dhcp on your router, change the internal ip address to match the original except for the last number and hook a cable from one of the lan ports on the original router to one of the 4 lan ports on your router, do not use the internet port. So if first router is 192.168.1.1 then your router should be 192.168.1.2.

thanks! That sounds easy :)
I'm sorry for my (probably newbish) question that comes in mind now, but
does this mean I have a WPA connection AND a WEP connection? or will it replace my WPA?

again thanks for your reply

You'll have 2 different wireless connections. Your main router can stay wpa and your second router can have a different network name along with WEP security.

Won't that defeat the purpose to have the WPA on the main router if he connect another router using wep? like it open a door for hackers?

Everybody acts like there are hackers next door. Its not as common as one thinks. I run WEP, never had an issue in 7 years. Yes, WEP is less secure than WPA. But that doesn't mean he's gonna get hacked.

plus, I can activate / deactivate it when I like right?
So I can just activate my WEP one when I need it.

oh yeah, and my mom threw away our old router 2weeks ago,
she thought it was broken and because we got another one (modem+router all in one), she threw it away...

looks like i'm gonna have to buy a new one after all...
phew and all of this just to play online with my nds, it better be worth it, haha

Too bad there isn't any software available to share my wifi as an open network though

You can even disable network name broadcast on the router. So people don't even know its out there. You'll have to manually enter network name to connect to it.
