Looking for the best card...

I have been looking for a good pci-e card to play Doom 3, heres my system:

Asus A8N-LA
Sempron 3200+ 1.8GHz 128K L2
512MB PC3200 400MHz

I was thinking of a 7600 GS or X1600 PRO/XT but i don't know if they would work well with my system...

both of those are good cards and would easily power doom 3 but u may also want to look at getting another stick of 512mb ram as it should increase your gaming experience at a low cost, i would also recomend a newer processor but its not necessary if possible u could always overclock just be careful

Redbulls right. If you are going to get a new card then either would be fine (although you may as well get the 7600GT instead of the GS) but you might want to invest in some more ram or possibly a new CPU. Overclocking is an option but you need a decent PSU and decent cooling aswell or else you could cause serious damage.

And you WILL need a better power supply to juce the new upgrades. I found that out the hard way...

If your just going to be playing Doom 3, I would just stick with the 512MB Ram you have. My uncles computer can play Doom 3 on high settings and he has 512MB RAM, and an X300SE. But if your going to be playing newer games, I highly suggest 1GB of RAM, and a new GPU. Maybe something like an X800GTO.

We don't know what he has now, so he might not need a new one. What do you have now Ramodkk?

Yeah, i think im upgrading my Sempron for an Athlon soon, that was already in my plans... I just needed to know about the card, Thanks.

Never buy CompUSA PSU. They do not have bareily (if any) Safity features and without them you run the risk of killing the computer.

Both cards a good it shouldnt matter which one you choose

Which two cards are you referring to, the 7300GT and x1600PRO? If so, the x1600PRO is clearly the winner here, and would be the best choice for only $20 more.

The two cards were the 7600GS and the x1600PRO, which the 7600GS would take the crown IMO.
