looking forward on one of three CPUs

I still having old P4 3.4Ghz 478 pins. I am looking forward buying 775 pins motherboard. I am using computer for gaming online. I avoid any of Celeron brands. The FPS is like a rollor coaster. In World of Warcraft In Shatt, it went 17 to 24 FPS. Flight path above water it went 100 to 120 FPS.

Now, so far is Core 2 Extreme is the best, then Core 2 Quad, then Core 2 Duo, then Pentium D, then Pentium 4, last Dual-Core, right?

I dont want to spend too much on Core 2 Extreme, I could buy CPU of Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Duo or Pentium D(save money).

I know newer video cards make better FPS.

Does Newer CPU also make better FPS as much as new video card in gaming? Oh which one of three CPUs you would buy for gaming? thanks
 
It depends. Quads are great for 3D graphic designing. Not alot of games really use all 4 processors at the same time so Duo's are more than enough at the moment. But indeed that Core 2 Quad Extreme is the fastest by far. The legendary QX9770.

I would say processors from the most processing power to the least is the following:

1) Core 2 Extreme
2) Quad Core
3) Core 2 Duo
4) Dual Core
5) Pentium D
6) Pentium 4
 
Xeon's are MEANT for servers but you can still use it for your own PC.


My dad still has one of the earlier Intel server CPU's. I think it was called Pentium Pro at that time.
 
OK HOLD UP BUDDY. You obviously have not looked past benchmarks and performance statistics! There is a huge misunderstanding on multi cored processors, Having more than one processor will infact SLOW YOU DOWN. Because rather than being processed on a single processor which is easier It has to communicate data through multiple which is slow. Also 64 bit is misunderstood, processors work through multiple channels of data flows in this case theirs suppose to be 64 streams. But your operating system and video card will slow you down with multi proccesors. ex: windows xp, -30 bits, ATI brand card -20. So your rly only getting 14 bits worth of streams. HOWEVER if u stray away from these items you can get full benefit.

Heres a very good processor which I am running crysis on full paired with a geforce 5700 LE

Clearly all you have said is that a Single Core P4 is faster than a Core 2?

and your bullcrap about full paired on Crysis is bullshit. Nothing at this moment can even max out the graphics on Crysis and you're telling me a 5 series is going to play Crysis. Even my 7900 GT at this moment cannot even play Crysis without lagging.
 
yes i am currently maxed out with a steady 45-120 fps, it normally drops down to 48 when i'm in battles and my resolution is 1680x1050, and runs very well. WELL one of the reasons why I run the game so well is because i understand the monitors processor. Most monitors has a built in processor, stock: is normally a pentium4 3ghz. Now what you can do is overclock this processor to display images and analyze pixels and polys at a faster rate. THAN your monitor will be able to run videos and just simply allow more pixels on screen. Yes you can OC your monitor, but be careful cus your monitor can overheat and if your using and LCD it might crack near the corners.

You can take any single core in any application you wish and an E8400/E6850 will stick knock you down...

WTF!? OC a monitor? A monitor has no P4, are you mentally sound?

5700LE can't even run Crysis...
