Dell OptiPlex 170L takes the PC2700/3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR Memory Type. You can upgrade to a maximum of 2.0 GB memory, the system has 2 sockets. It does not support 2gig sticks.

Prices for 1gig sticks:

PC2700/DDR333

PC3200/DDR400

You might be able to find it a bit cheaper if you hunt around but that is reflective of most current pricing.

Thanks :P. i want to fix up my computer (on a limit of 255 bucks) to play call of duty 4 and world of warcraft
 
I think you are wasting your money trying to upgrade just the RAM in your present system. A Pentium 4 320 (3.0 gigahertz) processor is likely going to really struggle with the software you want to use. If you are playing World of Warcraft I would look into a whole new motherboard and processor and RAM.
