Looking to build a relatively down to earth prices gaming rig. I do have a Sapphire radeon hd 6850 video card already in my possession if you could take that into account. Would appreciate the guidance of your community.

I can tell you by experience with exception to GPU and CPU that all of that is %100 worth the money. I have, or have had all of it and would recommend it to anyone. From the reviews on the new quad core that I put on this build you can overclock it like a mad man because of the low starting voltage :), I just ordered me one and can't wait for it to get in!

NOTE: Look into an Core I-5 2500k for an Intel option, very good CPU and would recommend. Unfortunantly I don't have experience in the Intel side of things so I'll leave that for someone else to show you a build.

Do you have anything right now besides the 6850? If so exactly what? (by name & model).
Do you just need the tower/parts?
Do you have an os, like Windows 7?

Assembling it is pretty easy and there's help here if you need it. W/ 5-600$ you'll need all of it for parts.
 
I have a OS. I can use my old pc for a hard drive and dvd burner drive for now. My process/motherboard and power supply are holding me back. Is all them case fans needed?

Is the HDD/CD drive SATA or IDE? In other words, is the cord connecting to the motherboard a thin cord or a wide ribbon cord?
 
The one dsgarcia posted is pretty good, except I would opt out for the case fans now because it's probably cool enough and you can always add more later. And the board he posted doesn't have IDE ports like I said, but it is a very good deal for a SLI/crossfire board.

And I would look at the AMD 955/965 or 960T CPUs instead of the FX series.

You said you had a couple things, so disregard those above. Depending on what you have, you could probably get a more expensive video card as well. If your budget allows, you could get a more expensive Asus/Gigabyte mobo too if you wanted, but the above motherboard seems to be pretty good, especially for the price. Just some ideas.
 
The 955 and the 1090T (hexacore) both offer good bang for the buck for Phenom 2 processors. The 1100T hexacore is a good processor for the price as well, but the 1090T has a better price/performance ratio.

And yes, AM3 processors work in AM3+ boards. It's the other way around (AM3 motherboards, AM3+ processors) that don't, besides a select few motherboards. To put it a better way, AM3+ motherboards (Bulldozer mobos) have backwards compatibility with AM3 processors (such as Phenom 2).

That Gigabyte motherboard you linked looks good, and would work very well with anything AM3 or AM3+.
