Hi, I am looking to build a new computer. For the purposes of gaming. I am hoping to send around $800-$900 total. If someone could help me with parts and specs that would be great and I would appriciate it.

Thanks

what kind of games? the new ones?

i would recommend getting
-amd 64 3000
-nvidia geforce 6600gt
-512mb ram
-asus or msi mobo, sum1 else can help out there, maybe one with NF3

case u can pick out at somewhere like newegg, u can get one with built in psu or not

I wish that i can go back in time when i built my computer, cause now i know more and know that my bottom line ASUS mobo and 5700 video card are...well. $hit. lol. I recomend:

-AMD 64 3000/3200
-Nvidia geforce 6600gt
-1GB DDR Ram
-160/200 GB Hard drive
-Gigabyte 7N400 Pro II Nvidia Motherboard
-Thermaltake Tsunami Case

what would be a good case for $50 or under? with a 500W PSU

hehe start looking at ~$100-120 cases if you want a somewhat decent psu along with it.
Or grab a cheap $50-60 case (crap cooling though) and buy the psu separate.

ya, ur going to be going for over 100 $ vry easily, get a 50$ case, but the power supply u cant mess with, u need a good one if ur going to get a vid card like that, maybe the antec neopower 480, but it again costs

get a mobo that has pci-e, that is what the vid cards will be going so that u can upgrade later, and that card comes in both

I know it comes in both but if i were to get that which one should i get? or do you mean there is one inwhich its both AGP and PCI-E?

Well I read the post about vid cards and im goin with teh PCI-E. There is one more thing I need and that is a monitor. Im looking for approx 17" monitor, it'll probly end up being a CRT but if anyone know where I can get a monitor for a decent price, tell me please.

I'd go w/ CRT myself, they're cheaper, they look better, and I've known flatpanel's to burn out in just a couple years. My parents got a flatscreen about 6 months ago and it's already got a dead spot in it. I've found some good monitors for real cheap on E-bay before, I wouldn't rule that out. U might just wanna look around and see if someone's selling one too. I've found good monitors on the side of the road before ;)

Yes the newer games, FPS, RPG's, Strategy games, etc....

For your price range, i would get the following:

Pentium 4 @ 3.0Ghz - $180
ABIT motherboard - $60
1GB of ram - $70
160GB hard drive - $90
Nvidia FX5200-GeForce 6600GT - $70-$200
CD-Burner/DVD-ROM - $20-$30

Your better off getting PCI-E, most future cards are going to use this, although you can use older cards with PCI-E. And i believe computers either have PCI-E or AGP, not both.

read the psu 101 for some ideas there .

-AMD 64 3000/3200
-Nvidia geforce 6600gt
-1GB DDR Ram
-160/200 GB Hard drive
-Gigabyte 7N400 Pro II Nvidia Motherboard
-Thermaltake Tsunami Case
You just suggested an AthlonXP board for an Athlon64 system....

there are also some mobos now that support both amd and intel
Some?
