Looking to buy a computer

I am looking to buy a computer for my husband who enjoys playing computer games, but I'm not really sure what specs I should be looking for. We do NOT want to build one. Any recommendations on what computer we should get or, at least, any tips on what I should be looking for in a computer? I'd like to keep the cost under $1,500 if that's even possible.

Check out monarchcomputer's custom builds. They have a low build cost. Also check out other small manufacturers like ibuypower and cyberpower. I've found monarch to be cheaper though.

Of course you can buy from big manufacturers like dell and alienware but they tend to be more expensive.

Finally, check out your local computer stores, sometimes they'll build the computer for you for a small fee (once you have the parts).

As for specs, look for something like AMD X2, at least a gig of RAM, and a decent video card (at least a 7600 for your budget). It'll be easier to give you exact specs once we know where you want to buy from.

Thanks for the tips on the companies. I checked out ibuypower.com and I need some advice. AMD® Athlon-64 3500+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology or AMD® Athlon-64 3800+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology? What's the difference? Should I be looking for 3800 or is 3500 good?

try and go for one of the AMD X2 builds. They have dual-core processors which are for the most part better. With a $1500 budget u can get a pretty good setup with X2.

If you got a $1,500 budget then i would go for some things mentioned below.
socket am2 x2 3800
nvidia 7900gt
1 or 2 gig of ram
go with that for now but tell us what it adds up to. Ask more questions.

it looks like I should be able to afford socket am 2 x2 3800, nvidia 7900gt, with 1 or 2 gig ram, but any recommendations on what I should be looking for in sound or speakers?
