anyone got any recommendations,im a graphic designer so ill need something that can run illustrator, photoshop, flash, indesign etc, and be able to whizz round the internet, i may consider getting some kind of music production software too but not sure yet, and no doubt it will house the missus` oversized mp3 collection

so any good deals/ reccomendations out there that would be able to handle what i need it for?

so far i have been told to look at this dell (see link) any opinions?

Go for a mac dude, if thats what your going to be using your comptuer for, mac is the way to go. I'm a PC guy myself, and for me to be suggesting a mac means it's probably the best choice for what you need. Apple is notorious for their software in image and audio editing. Almost all offices who have graphic designers or audio type stuff have macs.... get a g5 =D

i hear you man, yeah i primarily work on mac in the office (im on one now lol) but the thing with that is i have all the latest software availble to me on pc and to get everything for the mac will be an extra hassle (this office is still on os9, yes laugh away!!, so i cant even get the software from here!), plus ill have to teach the wife how to use a mac which again will be a whole world of pain! lol
oh and g5`s are a lot more than im looking to spend, like im thinkin 700-800 if not less!

well, for what you require and what you do, mac is your best go. but since it's not an option.. there are some minimal specs that you might want to look into.

from your link, it's a pretty good build. if you are a serious graphic major.. i'd say if u can shell out the extra 250 or so to get the 2gb or RAM and the next nvdia card.. you'll be better off entirely. if u are planning on music production and such, even a bigger hdd will add to your value in the future.

yeah ill be doign a lot of graphics work on the machine so great thats exactly what i was thinking, upping that dell to a 2gb, sweet, thanks for all your opinions everyone :)

If your a graphic designer you should look more into a work station PC. That dell has a gaming gpu in it, your gonna want like a quadro graphics card or a fire gl if you can afford it. Those are meant for more graphical applications not gaming. THis would be a better dell for the stuff you need it for.

nice one bball4life - that looks like the price im looking to pay, no monitor thou?
Dang dell, what a bunch of cheapos, they don't even give you a crt thats crap, 1 sec.

Well you can get a 17" crt or flat panel for $150 and with this one, its like $900. If you really can't afford that one, then the dimension isn't that bad of an option you just may want to look into getting a fire gl or quaddro graphics card and replacing the one it comes with. It will suit you much better for graphic design and stuff.

Well Try and get at least a 1GB of ram, probably 2GB if possible, but really see how it works for what you need it for. Its cheaper to buy the upgrades afterwords in a lot of cases actually, just compare prices, look at your budget, and see its performance when you get it.
