OK, not to start an argument but just for information's sake, this is the processor in a Mac Pro off of Newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117143
It has a list price of $734.00 + shipping, and the Mac Pro comes with two of them standard. So that is over $1400 for just the processors alone. That is not counting the rest of the specs:
* 2GB memory (800MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)
* ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics with 256MB memory
* 320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200-rpm hard drive1
* 16x double-layer SuperDrive
so lets look at 2 gigs of ECC DDR2 @ 800mhz - which I can't find on newegg, they don't carry fully buffered ECC memory @800mhz. I went to crucial, no dice. This is the closest I could google

its $373 and slower ram, its 667 instead of 800
Ok, now we need to find a motherboard that supports this Xeon processor, and on top of that it needs to support two.
this is what I found
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ta6-_-Motherboards+-+Server-_-ASUS-_-13131169
which is $339
so far I have
734
734
373
339
Total = $2180
that does not include optical drives hard drives, case, powersupply or any of that. Plus the RAM i have listed is slower than the stock ram in the Mac Pro. It needs a nice powersupply which will probably run you $200, the optical drive and hard drive will run you another $400 ish that puts you at $2780 with slower RAM and you have to pay shipping on all the parts separately and buy an OS.
