looking to buy a new PC GAMING!

Saving money aside, I would get 4GB (2x2) memory with that setup.

However, if you are building, I would change most every component listed for better price/performance. Let me know if you are interested.

Like what changes? I can get fair prices on the components I listed. Let me know your input as I greatly appreciate it! What would you upgrade ECT. Thanks again!

Here's what I came up with for price/performance:

Case - Coolermaster Centurion 5 ($50)
PSU - Thermaltake Purepower 500W ($60)
CPU - Intel E8400 ($190)
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ($110)
Memory - G.Skill 4 GB (2X2 sticks), 800 DDR2 (PC6400), CL5 ($85)
Hard Drive - Seagate 500GB Sata 16MB ($80)
Optical - Samsung 20X Dvd Burner ($23)
GPU - Evga 8800GT 512MB ($170)
CPU Cooler - Depends on how much you want to spend.

Total in US dollars before rebates and tax: ($768)

The above is just for the tower, you would obviously have to add the monitor, OS, or anything else you need. Of course the case is up to you, there are other similar PSU's around that price, and you could change anything else as well...but that is IMO an excellent system for gaming at that price.

If you have more money to spend, I would look at upgrading the GPU to a Geforce 8800GTS or even higher. Other than that...slightly higher quality memory could be an option, as well as a different hard drive arrangement. An additional DVD burner could also be an option, as well as replacing the E8400 (dual-core) with a Q6600 (quad-core). Good luck.

I guess everyone's pretty much covered everything ..

I Just want to add a few things

A) I strongly advice u to learn to build a computer yourself, and then build it .. Its really not that hard... and jst ask ppl about if parts fit with each other etc.. and if the part is good or crappy b4 u by it ... umm yea u'll save a fortune .. and its great experiance ..

B) Remember in the IT industry(or any technology) pretty much prices drop real fast .. I donno how others feel about this .. but I never feel comfortable about buying the best on the market concider I know that the price of it will have droped by like 1/2 its origional price in 6 months .. or they decide 2 change the standard and change the socket, bus etc ..

I tend to just build something that'll just do the job(instead of making it upgrade proof) .. then sell it off online wen i decide 2 upgrade .. and then build a completely new one .. seems 2 work for me ..

thanks, you all have been so much help! one more questions though...

what is better, 2X1 GB of Ram at1066 or 2X2 GB of Ram at 800??

(also, what is the difference between 4X1 GB of ram and 2X2 GB of ram?)

they seem to both be the same price? I figure I will go with windows Vista 64 bit version, but should i go with XP? which is better, I have heard so much bad stuff about vista?

also, what is the big difference between a HDD with 16 MB cache and 32 MB cache??

also, what does a TV tunner do?do you have to suscribe to a service to watch TV or do you get cable channels for free??

once again thanks for all the help, this has been one of the best forums I have ever experience, and I am sure I will have more questions as I go along this road building this rig!

well .. 1066 is better in terms of performance ... so really depends on how much ram u'll be using. If ur gona be using under 2gb then the 1066 is the way to go .. if ur going to use more than 2gb then the ddr2 800 is the way to go ..

more ram doesn't make your computer faster, but if u don't have enough ram it'll slow ur computer right down .. like super super slow .. down ..

difference between 4x1 and 2x2 is that 4x1 means u have 4 sticks of 1gigs, which usually means u max out all ur dimms(place where u put ur ram sticks), and no room for upgrade later, unless u have more than 4 dims, .. 2x2 means u have 2 sticks of 2gigs .. so u'll have 2 more dimms if u wish to add more ram in future .. performance should be the same, as long as they run at the same speed with same latiencys ..

think of cache as short term memory(for the hdd) the more u have faster it'll go pretty much .. but 32mb of cache won't be twice as fast jst incase u got confused u'll prob get like a 5 - 10% increase (thats just a guess i haven't lookd into it in terms of harddrives)

and TV tuner means .. that u can pick up ur standard home tv on ur computer thats it .. no extra channels .. its pretty much for people that want to watch TV on there computer, or record TV on their computer, play playstation etc ..

Vista is fine .. its not as stable as XP but stable enough .. u only hear so much crap about it because it wasn't really a upgrade .. cause it didn't make much better .. Its good for gaming cause it supports DX10(which most new games make use of).. 32bit OS is fine ... it'll support alot more programs .. I'd say go with 32bit .. less issues and stuff ..

so one will have to plug in their cable box to their computer just to get the TV service?

and what would you recommend, the faster 2 GB or the slower 4 GB of ram....

well .. what do you plan on using your computer for .. I mean I personally don't use more than 2gb of ram.. but then again .. I only play warcraft 3 and surf the net .. if u plan on playing the latest games .. i think they'll use more than 2 gb .. but i donno i'm not up with the latest games. for most ppl 2gb is fine ... 1066 is a bit faster but to most ppl they won't notice the difference between 1066 and 800 .. only really in benchmarks .. i'd go with the ddr2 800 if I was u ..(but if i was me i'd go with the 1066 cause i know i neva use more than 2gb of ram)

umm well I don't really get the TV thing that ur asking .. but its pretty much this... u know how u have a antena on top of your house?(if u have one) then it comes down to ur house in a coaxel cable .. and its like round .. plugs into the back of your TV .. and thats how u pick up TV .. well thats pretty much wat a TV card does... u plug in ur antenna and u can pick up TV ..

you wont' get sky(thats wat its call in new zealand) or wateva ur pay for TV is called ..

That depends on the operating system. Vista Ultimate with 2GB is not enough (IMO), while Basic or XP is fine with 2GB and hardcore games.
