Looking to do some upgrades

Ok, here goes nothing, I am looking to upgrade this dated old reliable gateway machine that has done me lot's of good but its just starting to show its age. To start with I dont need this machine to run crysis at ultra high with max anti-aliasing or anything like that but I do want it to have higher end gaming capabilities. I am just not extremely well off financially to spend thousands on it at this moment but I just dont know where to start. I also will be using it for web browsing and stuff. I guess right now I am mainly looking for general advice on where to start to get some performance increases starting with the absolute cheapest options first. I did a little homework on some specifics... Thanks for any advice in advance.

Processor: AMD athlon 64 3500 2.2GHz Socket 939
Mobo: First International Computer Model # KTBC51G http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard/AMD/KTBC51G.aspx
Memory: 512 hynix DDR 40MHz x2
GPU: Radeon x1600/1650 series 512 MB
PSU: 300 watt generic
Here is the exact spec of my computer Gateway GT4010 as it was when I bought it http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5891/5891sp3.shtml the only difference is the graphics card radeon x1600 that I put in it.

Get 2GB of memory, Ati 3850 video card and a new CPU (im not good with AMD) and that should keep you going.

You do have an AGP slot. the radeon x1600/1650 is currently occupying it. you'll have to uninstall the drivers for it, shut down the machine, and replace the x1650 with the new one. then you just install the new drivers and away you go. :)
