looking to get a 1440p monitor

hey guys and gals. ive been on a 25" 1080p resolution forever now, and im wondering if going to a 27" 1440p montor if ill be that much happier, or if ill feel let down. il be gaming primarily. if 1440p is a noticeable difference over 1080p, then what would be a good one for $400 or under? thanks
 
I don't feel like you would be let down by the upgrade. Everyone that I have talked with with that made the jump to 1440 or 1600 says they never want to go back to 1080 after the upgrade. I like it for games but for me the biggest benefit is the extra work space on my desktop.

If you live near a microcenter this would be a good deal. If not, you might need to do some digging on Amazon or Ebay :(

right, unfortunately its outside my budget. $400 is where I need to be at or less. if anyone has any other suggestions then that would be great. otherwise, I may have to travel to Detroit (about 2 hours away) to go to micro center and grab that HP
 
If you are a competitive FPS professional, yes. I think mine ranges from 10-16ms and I don't see any issues with it.
 
no, I havnt thought of selling the 1080p hp I have. was thinking of keeping it, but yeah, if it would get me a better monitor than id be open to selling it. so lets say my budget is $500-$550. what would be a good 1440p monitor for that? and do you all think that the qnix is a bad choice for the money? or what about the new crossover screens? all the reviews on them seem pretty good?

I don't think that the QNIX would necessarily be a bad idea. So far I really only see that there is more of a chance of dead pixels vs a Dell Ultrasharp or HP Zline displays. but you do get 1440 for ~$200 less than those displays. It is really up to you. If you do not need perfect color and are ok with the risks of running a B or C grade IPS panel vs and A grade then it would be worth it. Personally I don't really see the difference in the screens. You get used to whatever you see everyday.
 
Have you considered looking into a 16:10 ratio 24" monitor?


The height and the increased resolution of 1920 x 1200 is definitely better than the 16:9 ratio imo.
 
intel man. a 16:10 ratio at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 is basically the same as a 1920 x 1080 monitor. its only 1200 because of the 16:10 aspect ratio, which is 1 unit longer than a 16:9. id be looking at the same resolution but on a different aspect ratio, so no a 1200p res wont work for me. 1440p is what I really want. im thinking ill probably go or the qnix. 6ms, 1440p, and for around $350, why not. it will be mainly for internet stuff, and gaming.
 
moving to a 24" 1200 screen would only be beneficial if you needed to get into the higher end IPS screens without paying $600 to $700 for the 27" models. Not that they are bad screens, it just would be about the same price for less screen.

The QNIX looks to be a good deal. If you don't see any reoccurring issues, I'd say go for it.
 
A 16:10 ratio's extra height on the monitor is pretty significant. If you've never had/used one, you'll never appreciate a 16:10 ratio monitor. It makes the monitor feel bigger than what it really is.
 
I use a 16:9 1440 screen at work and a 16:10 1600 screen at home. It will feel bigger on 16:10, but not bigger than a 1440 screen. Like I said earlier, if he was doing professional work where the panel needed to be of the highest grade then yeah that would make more sense to get into one of the U24xx monitors. But for what he is doing, I don't see the benefit of paying the same for a smaller screen.

I have a Korean Achieva Shimian I got from ebay for $330. I've had it for over a year now with no problems. There are similar ones out now that are a little better, such as a catleap.
