Looking to get a gaming desktop.

I didn't look at the link because imo anything from BB isn't a good deal.
The best way to optimize the quality of the parts/performance/computer, is to put the components suggested for your use and budget into the case yourself.
You don't have to know how each part works or what makes it good, members can explain that to you as well as the easy steps to take to put the parts into the case.
Do you think you could do that?

I put a computer together when i was 14. ITs been awhile... but ya i could do that if i had a lot of help.

U.S region I assume? Then I can imply prices are very similar to Canada (Where I live).

Before taxes, I spent about ~$1,200 CDN for specs in my profile.

You can get GPU like GTX 570, or 660Ti
PSU can be replaced for 650 or 700W
MOBO, I think something like UD3H? Lower price than the Asus I have, and does its job (mentioned in this forum multiple times)

You can probably get away with similar or lower budget like ~$1,100 USD with that.

Perfect. If you've put one together before, you've got it whooped.
You'll have a nice gaming pc for around 1K or so.
I'm thinkin' you need Windows and the tower, but unsure if you need keyboard/mouse/monitor.

Your in the US correct? Go here and make a free account and be sure to sign up for E-Blast promo emails. They have great products/pricing/customer service and even if you buy from somewhere else, its a great shopping tool for price comparisomes and product specs. http://www.newegg.com/Index.aspx

Let's start with a build list. Some parts have a promo or mir or both, and a couple combos.

This is the most popular gaming cpu atm. As for the burner, most any name brand. Like this saves a bit.

The 2500K performs close to the same and is $200 atm due to a promo.

This deal is $48 off on this high performance board.

GPU for any game at high or max settings.

A quality power supply is important. Without skimping, this unit comes in at $70, has 7 yr warranty,
Silver rating, semi modular, and nice cables. If down the road you wanted to add another 670, you could.

Top brand. Could save about 10 by going with Cas Latency 9 instead of this 8. Up to you.
No big diff in performance, or price. Mainly its 1600 for the price vs performance, and 1.5v to stay in spec.

For hdd the top 3 are Western Digital, Samsung F3, or Seagate Barracuda.
WD has the best warranty but this one is only 72. All three have a low failure rate.

Don't know how you want the case to look. This one has tons of features and cooling options for a low price tag.

Right now, not including the gift card or mir's the total after shipping its about 1190.
The mir's and gc = 50. If you can count the 50 as part of the budget, an ssd will put you a bit over 1200.
This might be a little much depending on if you need any peripherals included in that 10-1200.
A diff mobo, ram, and 2500K lowers it by about $60

All from Newegg, except I will getting the Windows7 someplace else. Getting the Video card in November, so price might be cheaper.

Alien's build all looks great bar the processor and board. I wouldn't really advise getting an FX-8120 or any FX processor. I'd rather go for an i5 and a Z77 board. It will be better in the long run. Benny chose the CPU I would pick.

To most of the regulars around here, building a pc from scratch is second nature. However I wouldnt be so quick to recommend building a computer to someone that has little to no experience doing it. Its not extremely complicated but there is enough involved to cause aggravation. I would say first watch some videos on youtube and read up on instructions on how to build a pc, then decide if it seems like something you are capable and willing to do. Price can be cheaper to build your own but thats not a guarantee, plus with a pre-built pc you get whatever warranty and other service it may come with.

Take this cpu/mobo bundle, much cheaper and the mobo is really good.

And then take an SSD (really recommend that one, it's not cheap though): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239044

Could do that too. With either board + SSD of that dollar amount, they are both over budget by 40-75$ maybe more depending on what the money needs to buy.

I'm sure the list will be tweaked before it's done but their's some info here for the TS. Parts, price ranges, etc. Something to think about and prompt questions/comments/concerns they have.
