I have a compaq persario SR2002X http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00774780&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3254078

Everything on it is stock, Expect for the power supply and graphics card which are:

BFG Tech GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Rosewill ATX12V v2.01 SLI Ready Power Supply - 550W

I'm looking to upgrade the ram, motherboard, and CPU, I also need a new case. Any suggestions?

Ps. The ram his the highest priority over all, Case being last on the list.

ok the link is 404, basically If you are looking to upgrade find the form factor for your case, and I will find a cheap mobo, I would prefer if you waited until after Christmas there should be several good sales online for these parts. Thats a great card, to run games well I would recommend a 4X core processor, depending on the OS you are running. And a fair amount of RAM.

Ok I suck at this but whats your budget?

I would go with
6GB ddr3 RAM
i7-920 and OC
GTX 260 or up.
As for mobo the i7's all use a similar one
and for a case I'd get a antec 900.
Give us a budget so we can lay this out from newegg

My budget is somewhere around 300$, Like i said this is more of a long term upgrade, with me buying parts when i have the cash. The ram is the highest priority, and the case may just be changed to second becuase of the need for space.

Sorry about my specs page 404ing, Here's a new link:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00774780&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3254078

EDIT: Also if i just decide to buy ram now, and nothing else. I would be asking for ram that is compatible with my current mobo.

Ok I looked up your computer, it will be a decent set, I would upgrade to a better mobo and a triple core processor. And drop about 2 GB of RAM into it. You can find some cheap ones online, I currently have that exact same card and It runs great on mine. If you want to spend all of the 300 then I would go for a quadruple but there is really no sense when you can get similar performance for less.

I plan to go for a dual core,I thought of getting a quad but I've had people say that i would be wasting the other cores with a quad becuase most games don't utilize them, So with that in mind, What kind of Dual core/Mobo combo do you recommend.

Also, I was thinking of getting these in terms of ram:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231051

That specific type of RAM would not work if you kept the motherboard in your computer. Try this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231044 (note thats only for the current motherboard)

Im not sure if I would agree whoever is saying you would be wasting cores if you get a quad core. Quad core is faster than Core Duo but im only human.

Thanks for that, I had a friend recommend the latter to me, Saying that my motherboard would adjust to the faster ram, But I'll go with what you suggested. But what motherboard/cpu combo would you recommend?
