looking to upgrade.

Well that is the one that I was originally looking at, just wasn't sure what kind of gains I would acceive with the cpu considering my Sempron 3400+ runs at 2GHz.

You'll notice a significant improvement in speed with a dual-core when gaming and creating DVDs. In fact, your current CPU is an unfortunate bottleneck considering the mid-range GPU you're using. The component recommendations in my previous post are you're best bet if you're looking for a cheap upgrade.

kind of funny i burned a dvd for the first time with my c2d the other day and it processed the iso file in under 30 seconds, whereas my old athlon xp would take about 30 minutes. kinda scared me...thought it had screwed up at first!

Nice, it should hold me over well until I decide to to a total upgrade.

939 models are being discontinued. This is why you will find it hard to locate them while prices are now dropping to see them cleared out. Between two cpus running at 2ghz the dual core will take up the slack while a single core cpu gets bogged down trying to handle too much.

Windows then runs far smoother while not being any faster. It seems faster since programs then start running normally and not simply dragging their feet.

When going from a 2.22ghz single core cpu to a 3ghz dual core model there were two factors that actually saw results. Multitasking and the load placed on cpu time when going to burn any disk even data dvds suddenly went fast.

The faster cpu speed was also noticed in just that alone. The same old games still run at the same speed while other things like burning disks are what actually notice the change. Windows sees a slight reduction in loading time as well.
