Looking to upgrade

I'm fairly new to the whole upgrading/building computers scene so im looking for some input.

The family has an older desktop. Its a sony vaio VGC-RB52 im looking to speed it up a lil bit and see what i can do with it.

its gotta 2.8GH intel pentium D
1Gb of RAM
250 GB HD

thats about all i know about it. Nothing has ever been changed on it, but im just curious if theres anything i can do to speed it up thats worth the money.I'm thinking another gig of memory cuz im pretty sure the motherboard only supports 2GB DDR2 memory but im not positive on that. and does the memory have to be pc4200??

any input would be appreicated thanks

Unless your running memory intensive apps then adding more memory won't help. What is the computer used for? If its just web surfing, emailing and office applications then you don't need to add memory.

thats it for the most part, it might see a little bit of gaming..games like Counterstrike, WoW, but nothing too high end.. i"m gunna build my own eventually to handle my own games, but this is mostly an internet browsing computer..

For what you want to use it for, its not worth upgrading or adding anything. You can use Everest Home Edition to find out how much memory you are using.
