Looking to upgrade

wut is a cpu

New Member
A while back I bought a pre built gateway desktop. Slowly I've been upgrading. Bought a 750w PSU, 560ti GPU, and a new case for it. Now I want to upgrade my mobo.

My question is how difficult would it be to do this. I also want to add a second HDD to my setup. Will I need to reinstall Windows if installing a new mobo.

My CPU is a i5 2320 so I've narrowed it down to one of 2:

You will need a new copy of windows as the OEM copy that came with your Gateway computer will not reactivate. You will need to reinstall windows fresh.

Also that 750 watt power supply is overkill for your system. A good 550 watt would have sufficed. What is the exact brand and model number of your power supply?

I have a disk with windows 7 on it, and I know my product key. Will I be able to use that to reinstall windows 7 with my new mobo, or did you mean it won't work at all because it came with the Gateway mobo.

And sorry I was thinking of a PSU for my friend's computer. This is the one I have:

And one last question, which of those 2 in the OP would be the best choice. Still kind of new to this.

You can't use the operating system that came with the gateway computer unless you used a genuine microsoft windows retail install cd to install it with. If you only have the operating system that came with the gateway, then no, you won't be able to reactivate it. And you won't be able to use the gateway install cd to reinstall windows.

The corsair power supply you linked to is fine for your system.

And as far as what motherboard to use, I would personally get this one.
