New Member
It began when I was installing a program that my anti virus cleared.
Once I was loading the program a warning poped up from my anti virus saying a adding for my desktop was trying to get on.I disallowed it but some reason it is in.
Mal/Generic-A
rundll32
I have ran 4 registry cleaners and none are able to remove the source.

My desktop vanishes and all I have is my wallpaper.
I cant save a hijack this log file as it says it cant find the log file and when I tryed to make one now I cant get into my c drive (start, computer, local disk c)as it just disappeared.

im vista
antivirus: spysweeper

Can you Ctrl + Alt + Del and go to task manager? (or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC )

If so go to file> run new task... then type in explorer.exe and hit enter.

See if that gets your desktop back!?

If not try booting up in safe mode. (F8 at start up).

Yes, it does bring back my desktop, tks.
Im still unable to get to my c drive threw the start menu...
Any ideas how to repair this problem?

That's true.
There is a possibility I suppose... One thing I don't understand: When you scan the computer choosing: Do a system scan and save a logfile it scans the system and automatically opens you the notepad file with the log in it...what happens to you?
I will post the exact prompts here please try to follow them and see if you can make it this time!
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Cannot find c:/program files/trendMicro/hijackthis/hijackthis.logfile
do you want to create another one?
I say yes and I get a blank notepad.

Open your Internet Explorer.
In the address bar paste that line:
c:/program files/trendMicro/hijackthis/hijackthis.logfile
It should open your log. Copy and paste the content of the log here :D

Also on start up getting error:

RunDLL

C:\Users\vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\yavfkrcj.dll Missing entry:run

Yes, there are some dangerous stuff at startup.
Please open up your HijackThis and choose Do a system scan only.
Check these entries:
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [cmds] rundll32.exe C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\vtsqp.dll
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MS Juan] rundll32 "C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\yavfkrcj.dll",ru
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [b0215cbc] "rundll32.exe" "C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\qphbiipo.dll ",

Close all open windows and click Fix Selected.
Now please, print out these instructions because you will have to enter the safe mode.
You can go in Safe Mode by restarting your computer, then continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

How to view Hidden files/folders.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html
don't forget to hide files/folders when this is finished

Now please navigate to Temp folder ( if you don't know how, paste C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp in your explorer ).
Please find these files and delete them:
vtsqp.dll
yavfkrcj.dll
qphbiipo.dll

When done please get back to the normal mode ( reboot) and post the fresh HijackThis log.
There is still some work to do!

K..sorry for taking so long...

I ran hijak and clicked these files:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [cmds] rundll32.exe C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\vtsqp.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MS Juan] rundll32 "C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\yavfkrcj.dll ",ru
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [b0215cbc] "rundll32.exe" "C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\qphbiipo.dll ",

I then went into safe mode and deleted these files:
vtsqp.dll
yavfkrcj.dll
qphbiipo.dll

I now have RunDLL error messages for :
C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\vtsqp.dll
C:\Users\Vagg\AppData\Local\Temp\qphbiipo.dll

at reboot

You found only that two?
OK, still good.
Well I was thinking, have you installed screensaver for your computer lately? I found some screensavers on startup, so I don't know, it's pretty optional fix.
