Losing Disk Space

This is really odd, and frankly, it's starting to worry me. I'm currently using a Raptor 150 GB as my main hard drive. Three days ago I had 104 GB free, now I have only 101 GB free. The problem? The only thing I've installed since is F-secure's Blacklight Rootkit scanner, and AVG Free 8.0.

It's actually been a gradual process. First I noticed I had only 103 GB left. This morning it was 102 GB. Now, only 12 hours later, its 101 GB. At this rate, I won't have any space left by the time summer hits.

Just to check, I turned on viewing of hidden folders (so I could see everything), opened up my C drive under Computer, pressed ctrl+a, right clicked, and went to properties. The total? 34.9 GB. But the big pink-and-blue pie graph shows that I've used up 38.0 GB. So where did the other 3.1 GB go? If I can't get them back, how can I keep from loosing more? Could AVG and/or Blacklight be causing this?

EDIT: Oh, and I've also started using the built in "Backup And Restore Center" in Vista. Could that be costing my my precious disk space? If so, how do I stop it?

That would be it, or so it seems. I ran CCleaner for the first time in about two weeks. It took about two or three minutes, but when it finished, it claimed to have removed 3GB of crap. Where I accumulated that, I don't know, but a TON of it was from AVG related directories. Hmm...

Thanks for the speedy response!

Ccleaner is a must. But really what helped my issue was run a disk cleanup, and remove shadow copies & system restore points. It seemed anytime I ran a windows update it would create a restore point, causing my free space to decline.

Also, flush your backup points if you are sure that your computer is free from any error.
To flush the unused backup points, simply switch off Backup and Restore and switch it back on.
As suggested in the above posts, it's always a good idea to run CCleaner before shutting down your computer.
