I have a 40GB hard drive which I was only using half of when I had to reinstall windows. Now it reads that I only have 8GB left. What happened and how do I fix it? Everything else is fine, well except for the user start up screen.
Well, wthout actually being there to witness your installation actions its hard to say whats happened, can you tell us what format the drive is formatted in FAT32 or NTFS?? Does it say 8Gb FREE SPACE or is it 8Gb CAPACITY?? also, what windows are we talking here... 95, 98 200, XP (Pro & Home)...?
A general solution would be to backup all your data to disks and format the whole drive and start from scratch, but this is a last resort option, lets work with what we've got
When I start the computer it says cannot log in no adminastrator found, but if I click ok it goes to the next window with my name on it and from there I click ok and it goes to windows. Before when I started up it went directly to windows. On occasion even the screens I mentioned before won't even come up and I have to shut down a couple of times to get them.
Ok, it seems when you reinstalled, it hasnt actually overwritten the old copy of windows, its basically messed itself up quite a bit, i suggest a full format and reinstall from scratch
