lost my d drive

i have some how lost use of my cd rom drive cant even down load new programs i am some what new to computers but is there any thing i can try myself before calling in a tech thanks .

how do you mean you lost it? You opened the computer and it was gone? Did you install or uninstall something right before that happened?
