lost setup and system password windows me operat. system

lost setup and system password for windows me operating. system. needed to change bios to start up from disc, but its locked. i cant get it to disable the security so i can change bios? any ideas? or if i install new drive, it will go to dthe reboot disc anyway? im lost!!!!!!!please help!!!!!!!!
 
This may be one for the motherboard forum, but you should be able to reset the bios, (there should be a jumper on the MB, read you MB manual, it will have instructions for you).

dont have any books...just the dell optipex?

WANTED TO INSTALL NEW LARGER HArd drive. made back up disc...needed to change bios to reboot from disc

administrator password
admin password
admin *blank*
admin 12345
admin 00000

Try those... Might get lucky!
 
well unpluging the system and pulling the battery for a long enough time should reset it without having to look for a jumper.

will that make me need to reinstall everything? wait for this until i have new hhard drive? how long pull battery? what will it revert to on startup?

i changed the code, but it wont take it now... i did 1234567

It will clear out the password and other non default settings. 5 min should be long enough.
 
i have a dell 2400 seee if these work ....
1. shut down your comp throught the start menu
2. ensure thst your comp and attached devices are turnt off.
3.disconnect telophone or telecomutions from the comp
4. dissconect your comp and attached devicesa from the plugs, then press the power button the ground the mobo
5. remove the compcover
6.locate the 2-pin jumper on the mobo (see attached) and remove from both pins
7. replace cover
8. turn on comp
9 if your prompted to pres F1 press F1 (duhhh)
10. when the desktop Appears shut the comp down
11. trun of and dissconect plugs
12. press power button to ground mobo
13. remove cover
14. attach jumper to one pin
15. replace cover
16. turn on comp
17if your prompted to pres F1 press F1 (duhhh)

i pulled the cover, and the battery. let sit 15 min. installed batt, powered up. it asked something and i pushed f1 i think. computer came on ok. didnt ask for code. im gonna reboot and check defaults in bios. thanks, i think that battery removal worked.

yep..that did the trick. restored to fact default...thanks much!!!
