A friend is bringing me his girls laptop that recently got thrashed by a virus. Its running windows media center edition but she doesn't have the restore disc for it but it does have the product key on the bottom of the pc. Is there a way to download the OS if I have the genuine product key in order to do a restore?

Sort of. You can use any MCE disc to install from as long as you use her key, it doesn't have to be the cd that shipped with her machine unless it has some preloaded software that you want (for some strange reason :P). Since it's a laptop you may have trouble finding drivers though most of the key stuff should work on the windows defaults.

Its an older toshiba and from what I can tell their website has the drivers I need.

So its ok if I torrented the mce cd? Or could anyone provide me with an ISO image file of the disc?

Depends who you're 'torrenting' it from. You must remember that you are also uploading to other people whilst downloading, and I doubt they are all downloading it legitimately... ;)

As long as I was only 'torrenting' an iso image of the disc and not a crack or keygen it would be legit though right? I'm hesitant to do it, but she needs this fixed.

Would anyone be willing to create an iso image of their disc so I can download it?
