lost Windows XP username

I have Windows XP Home. I've been logging on for over a year using the same password. It had a username stored, but never asked for it so I basically forgot it. One day, the system presents me with a different login
dialog box that I hadn't seen before. It wants both my username and password. I can't get passed it because (I believe) it doesn't like any of the usernames I tried. I know my password by heart, so that shouldn't be the problem. How in the hell do I find out what my username was?

Thanks,
Steve

3-- Save mode
4--Select Adminstrator
5--Control Panel
6--User Account
7--Select your user and reset the password

I very much appreciate your response. Turns out that I have the Windows XP logon - logoff loop virus. It has to do with corruption of the userinit.exe file. Thanks again.
